Flagstone Patio -- Disaster or will it be OK?
Comments (6)Hi again Belated Thanks for your replies. Our gardener tried very powerful pressure washing, alot of it did come off but there are bits left including some "very attactive" lines of it where the stream missed. A few softer stones also have lines etched in them. It also blasted out most of the Quikrete from between the stones, and generally made a huge mess of the whole surrounding area. In the meantime DH returned to Lowe's, and found that the stuff we should have used, JointLoc polymer sand was right beside the Sand topping mix & the assistant had recommended the wrong thing! He told them they could just sweep it over the top & it would wash off!! We added Joint loc sand on top of the reamaining base mixture and it is all settling in. We'll work on it more a bit later when weather improves. I considered whether we could turn stones over but they are all irregular shaped & with some it may work better than others. We didn't want to use strong acids if could avoid it, we may try with wire brushes and vinegar to get the remainder off. It mostly looks OK if you don't look too closely at it!! Anyway it was a mess & I hope others see this post, DO NOT use Sand Topping Mix with natural stone!, and just take your time & do some research before you dump something over your expensive stones!! Thank you all again!...See MoreKitchen Paint Disaster - Help please
Comments (9)OH FOR THE LOVE of RED PAINT ... OMG Been there - paid for it. The gray Primer is a Joke. It has nothing to do with a color primer .. What is needed is a Sheepskin Roller. How did I find that out .. UM my Paint disaster in my NEW renovated kitchen. I chose a Ben Moore color called " Night Flower". Its a deep red magenta color. Deepest of deep. All new primed drywall and new ceiling. Ceiling was to be original that was white plaster from yesteryear - " yet a story to be told" within renovating a house built in 1924. That I am not wanting to talk about. Anyway - UM Red Paint is the hardest to work with due to the inconsistency of of dye. I spent myself over 12 hours trying to paint and all that came up was a room that looked like a Cow had been murdered. Roller marks, streaks ..OMG it was Sick and I spent so many hours painting I wanted to be that Murdered Cow. I spared no expense on the paint - no expense on the tools. And it came out looking like a Room of Bloody Hell. So I had to call in a friend and he Used a Sheep skin Roller and It worked. I changed though the Paint. I went to Pittsburgh Paint and had them Match the Ben Moore Color " Night Flower" and they did Match it. My Friend painted my Kitchen with the Sheep skin roller and it finally came out without flaws - the color. before - My paint job - pic taken more than likely at 1 am - Me in pure agony because nothing I did could make it look right. after It seemed it was all within the actual Roller - the sheep skin roller made all the difference with the RED paint. Not saying a Sheep Skin roller is necessary for interior painting - Just RED paint. I hope this helps you....See Morehelp please! kitchen paint disaster!
Comments (6)Wow! Well, at least you all are giving me some hope that it MAY eventually cover! And I thought $20.00/quart was the expensive stuff. LOL Shows how much I know. I'm using the Walmart paint everywhere else. I've painted 3 rooms so far and it only took 2 coats and I really like the way it looks. The reason I went with the Lowe's Valspar was because I couldn't find a red I liked at Walmart. I'm going to look online and try to find a SW or BM dealer close. I'm pretty rural, takes 45 minute drive to get to Walmart so hopefully, I won't have to go much further. Thanks again for the help. :)...See Moredriveway problem -- laying the entire driveway again..not happy!!
Comments (19)Doesn't do you any good to be terrified, be pro-active instead. Get a handle on the weather forecast and see what you're in for - keep updating as obviously it can change. Is your driveway (even part of it) in shade at any time of the day? If so, push for work to be done at that time and don't allow the pour at the hottest, most sunny time. If that means tear out on one day and pour the next day to get some shade, then so be it. Get specific on the contractors intended start time, number of workmen and how late he can cancel the truck if the weather turns - where I live you can cancel within the hour of delivery but it depends on your distance from the materials yard. Be upfront with him and ask him how he's going to do this differently to get a proper finish. I have to say, he's acting honorably in his willingness to do this yet again and that counts for a lot but sadly may not impact the final result - hope it's a better finish this time....See Morepalimpsest
