Truly hands-free garbage disposer?
Comments (12)If you choose one of the higher hp continuous-feed disposals, you'll also get a much larger grind chamber. A 1-hp Insinkerator has a grind chamber that is more than twice as large as a 1/3-hp model, allowing you to push more into the disposal at any one time. The higher hp models also have better sound insulation, so they're quieter in operation. In addition, with Insinkerator you get an all stainless steel grind chamber and stainless grind components in the 1-hp model, which are much more durable than the plastic or ordinary steel parts in the lower hp models. I have the 1-hp Insinkerator and find that it's so powerful that it will pull most food scraps into the grind chamber on its own, as long as the water is running and the scraps make it as far as the drain opening. It also grinds scraps into smaller particles which allows them to more readily flow through drain lines. While the batch feed models enjoy the advantages mentioned above, if you want to consider one of those, you'll need to plan for one, or ensure that your plumbing is set up to be compatible. The batch feed models have a much deeper throat and usually extend below the sink basin further than the continuous feed models. That being the case, you need to be sure that your drain line exits the under-sink wall at a point that will be lower than the bottom of the grind chamber. If it's not, you'll have water constantly standing in the bottom of the disposer which will shorten the life of the machine, and could result in food debris remaining in the disposer after it stops running. If left there for a number of hours or days, that could lead to unpleasant odors -- or worse....See MoreHand Forged Wrought Iron Entry Doors - Opinions or Experiences?
Comments (25)Yes! Welcome to the club. The door is a nightmare. When I see homes being build with these doors I almost want to run in and tell people to change the door before it’s too late. Looks good from the street, but a total disaster. Mine gets so hot in the summer, I laugh about it and tell people I grill on it. I had rust stains after only a few years, had to repaint. Get condensation in the winter, but i seal from the inside on super cold days - it helps. Actually in the process of buying some weather proofing for the door now and hope it might help Some more. Good luck!...See MoreSensa Granite - opinions? first-hand experience?
Comments (6)We priced Sensa granite from Lowe's and we found that we could get it much cheaper from the flooring/countertop company that we are going to go with instead. We were looking at the Baltic Cream color at Lowe's and it was approximately $50/sq. foot (I can't remember if that included installation). The same Sensa granite from the other company was $17/sq. ft. plus $24/sq. ft. for fabrication and installation. We're going with a different granite instead (not Sensa), but I added a 15-year stain warranty (Pro-Advance Sealer) to it. We might rent this house in the future, so I thought adding the stain protection would be a good idea. We also found out that Lowe's would probably have a 3 week turn around time from templating to installing the granite. The company that we are going with has about a week turn around, so *hopefully* we'll be able to get back in our kitchen that much sooner!...See MorePink Surprise (Lens)? Any first hand experience?
Comments (5)I don't grow 'Pink Surprise' but I DO grow the less-known 'White Surprise' which is a sister seedling. My soil and water are INCREDIBLY alkaline, but 'White Surprise' is not troubled by that -- something for which I must credit its bracteata heritage. It is INCREDIBLY prickly (certainly no surprise, given its heritage). It's a great bloomer, and I find the big, white single blooms incredibly lovely. It's completely disease-free here. My only caution . . . place it where it has lots of room, and where you don't have to be too intimate with it....See Moreteeda
