Need New Dining Room Chandelier - Advice Needed
Comments (13)It seems like a standard squarish room. Many dining tables are rectangular in their smallest configuration. As long as you usually use the table in the size of your photo, I personally wouldn't go with a rectangular light - especially if it required extra mounting points. Stick with a traditional circular/globe/roundish chandelier. Gives you more options down the line without having to patch holes in the ceiling. Discalimer on next comment: I've never refinished a chandelier with spray paint. I think there is enough detail on your chandelier that refinishing could easily look sloppy if you're not very careful during the process. Don't forget to get a new chain if you do refinish (assuming you're not going to go through trouble of spraying all sides of that). Anyhow, I would suggest a new chandelier if the budget allows. I like your choice. Assuming you stick with open chandelier and candelabra style bulbs, add some nice flame (bent) tip, frosted, 2700 K, ~300-400 lumen, dimmable LED bulbs while you're at it. Something like this: https://www.satco.com/s9869.html They aren't cheap, so budget for that if you have a lot of bulbs and decide to go with LED. Also, you may need to upgrade your dimmer for LED. Comments (16)I'm not sure what your question is regarding recreation as I am in the middle of my current remodel. I just selected the dining chairs this week and test "drove" them on Wednesday :-) I am repurposing a lot of my current furniture - I am reupholstering my Josef Hoffmann sofa and armchair - they are currently black but I am redoing in a teal velvet. I am keeping my Chinese Deco Chest (green) and I also have a 1920's arm chair with the same channel upholstering that I am redoing in a pattern that has vaguely the geometric lines of Art Deco - that chair has carved wood arms which I will be doing in a metallic kind of finish because I already had a LOT of wood cabinets in the dining area, kitchen as well as my office area. I am refinishing an Art Deco bar. I haven't definitely decided on a dining room table - because I am also in a condo, I have a small dining area and so I will probably go with a glass top over some kind of Art Deco base. I am refinishing my Waterfall Bedroom set - repurposing the vanity into two end tables. I am not aiming for a full on period style - I think it would be impossible to do on my budget since true Art Deco pieces have gotten way out of my price so it's more of an eclectic gathering of what I like - the pieces I'm keeping I haven't grown tired of for years - I discarded a lot of furniture I had acquired so I just kept those pieces that I continued to want to live with. The dining room chairs aren't true Art Deco but have the lines that I like - these are the chairs that spoke to me immediately after perusing loads of choices online. Comments (8)I would suggest 20"-24" round chandelier, when the chandelier is too large it might be too close to the diners, a thumb rule is around 1/3 of the table size. We make unique lighting made of art blown glass in beautiful styles, we specialize in custom lighting and can design the chandelier in any length. Comments (13)I haven't read all of the comments so I might be repeating someone else's ideas. I love the buffet with the chandelier. I'm going to give you two options. Least expensive: Remove deco items for both options. Paint the table, chairs and mirror the same black as the living room. Choose a rug. If you want color, you can choose almost anything since you are not coordinating with any color in the living room. If you go with color, I would get maybe a persian with max 3 colors. If no color, then a black and white pattern. You can go with a strong primary color, or, I noticed a light blue chair in the living room, you could even go with a blue and white pattern rug which would look great with the wood buffet. Recover the chair seats, and get a roman type shade for the window, to coordinate with the rug. (If you want to do this I can go into more detail about how to choose fabric) I know they are probably on the outs at the moment, but I wouldn't even hate shorty curtains for the window with some kind of edge banding or color blocking to make them look current. Remove some of the beading on the chandelier to make it less traditional/fancy. Then bring in deco. From the looks of your living room, you won't need much help. Second option. New table, chairs and rug. Art for over buffet, with art lamp above. Buffet lamps. Window covering. New chandelier. So, basically keep the buffet, scrap the rest. If you do this, coordinate with the living room colors. I'm curious how the dining room flows with the living room considering the stark color difference. I would want to make the two connect a little better. If you do a color rug in the dining room, you could bring some of those colors in the living room. So, that's my 2 cents. I really love the style in the living room and to make further recommendations (as if I haven't said enough...) it would be helpful to see more photos of the living/dining room and the kitchen. Lastly, It wouldn't cost much more to do option 2 over option 1. I think you definitely need a new dining set....See Morelmuhrich
