Interior door replacement - what to do if it doesn't match?
Comments (7)Paint it a different color than the rest and celebrate diversity. Or hunt down one that does match-- I don't think most door companies have changed their designs over the last 35 years. Chances are if you can find the original maker they will still have the same door. Worst comes to worst a woodworker or good trim carpenter could make you one that matches exactly....See MoreHelp with bathrooms. Divide to two bathrooms or do one large bathroom?
Comments (15)I agree with Cpartist"s layout and like moving the closet over as suggested by D M so that bedroom 3 has easier access to the bathroom. Do you have room to have the toilet face the tub and add a linen cabinet next to the toilet? How wide is the tub toilet area?...See MoreIs different color scheme in bathroom from rest of house ok?
Comments (4)It's your house. Why not paint for you? Have fun with it. Don't be afraid to do something that brings you happiness. Enjoy! Afterwards, if you think the transition from your open spaces to the powder room is awkward, you can always keep the powder room door closed. You can always repaint for beige brown taupe safety boredom when and if you ever put the house on the market....See MoreMY BATHROOM DOESN'T HAVE A DOOR??
Comments (19)That doorway into the toilet/shower room looks so narrow! If you find that it is too narrow to work well for a door, look at these door hinges. It would work if there is room in the hallway to the right or left of the door opening for the door to swing up against the wall. Or you could use them with a narrow double door if you don't have room for the swing of a normal door. This would allow you to have a set of narrow French doors that can close all the way and then swing outward and lay against the wall outside the bathroom, like shutters on either side of the opening. The doors get out of the way without blocking the hallway, either. See the diagram here. You use something called a parliament hinge or wide throw hinge to make this happen. You could also do this with just a single full door if you have enough wall space outside of this bathroom for the whole door to lay out of the way against the wall. Parliament Hinges. Unlike the regular door and the folding door, these hinges clear the entire entrance way once the door is open, so you do not lose any more width of the entry to space for the door to hang. If you do not have any light switches outside of the bathroom doorway, it will be easy to do because I agree with acm that it looks like you have a wooden door jamb already in place. If we are right, you just need to measure for the door opening and have a door made to fit (or two narrow doors) and buy the special hinges. If you are having one door, then a little cutting for the door latch will be needed into the door jamb, and into the doors themselves if you have the french style double door done. Then the hinges are attached and your door(s) hung. It is a handyman job. If you do have a light switch and do want double doors, you can look into having that switch relocated....See Morecubby14
