Tile grout color: subway tile with hex floor grout matching
Comments (6)Should the grout be the same color? Not necessarily. Will it look weird to use a darker gray on the floor and a lighter gray in the shower? Not at all. Any recommended colors for the shower and floor tiles along these lines? I've been getting stuff at Lowe's and they carry MAPEI Warm gray for the subway tile, and silver for the hex, if you lke a darker grey for the hex. Silver is actually a medium grey, but it'll appear alot darker with the white tile. Our bathroom isn't perfectly square. I think a colored grout seam that is uneven will be really obvious(that's my understanding where you would do any flubbing). Can you grout just the seam white? Can you skip grout and caulk it? Any suggestions here? Grout everything on the floor the same color. it'll actually show up more if you try doing what you suggested. It'll literally draw attention to it. What you want to dpo is make sure that you're square to the most obvious walls from the door. Especially with the hex, it won't be quite as obvious as you think, unless it's WAY out, and then nothing you can do will hide it, even using a blending color grout. One other thing-- that joint where the floor hits the walls should be caulked, but still caulk it with a caulking that matches the grout, both color AND texture. Does anyone know what the measure is for hex tile and subway? For subway, use unsanded, and for the hex, use sanded....See MoreI need some suggestions on my kitchen...
Comments (3)Do you have a receipt from the order that tells a color name or number you can compare with what you got? Do they have a sample in the store that you looked at when you ordered that you can compare your tile with? I'm so sorry you're unhappy and hate to think of it affecting how you feel about your kitchen every day. Even if it was you who made the mistake, it's better to admit it now and try again? It's really hard for me to tell on the computer image if it goes well with your counter or not. Did you try taping some up on the wall in the planned pattern to see if you'll really like it?...See MoreI need help with fixing my tile grout - any suggestions?
Comments (16)Oh wow, thank you guys! Just when I'm having a bad day, I jump on here and get complimented, and it makes my day! :) G - thank you! I didn't know people even looked at my kitchen on the FKB anymore since it was such a long time ago. I do enjoy my kitchen and still feel like it's brand-new. I can't stand clutter on my counters so I have to constantly clean, because I want it to stay new as long as possiblw! yes, I just love my corner sink. I also moved our sink from under a window to the corner, and it was a wonderful decision. I probably have 24 inches between the sink and the stove (to my left) and three feet between the sink and my dishwasher (to my right), so it's in a perfect position. If I would have had to sink under the window, I would have had to drip water on the floor all the time moving from the stove to the sink, know what I mean? It's been perfect, and I wouldn't have it any other way, seriously. It's great! You will love it! My mom still gets annoyed when she comes over because she's old school and does dishes in her sink, and hates my single sink. I love it though! It's nice and roomy. Email me if you have any more questions. I'd love to help! Claybabe - thanks! Okay, no white then, huh? I admit the grey grout I have now matches the counters perfectly, so I'm kind of reluctant to change it. but I have to do something. There are places where the grout is missing, so I guess I have no cnoice but to re-do it, or at least mis some up and fill in. Thanks, guys! Comments (4)I am confused about your concern regarding allergies with epoxy grout. Is this DIY? Does someone in your family have a known allergy to epoxy? What is the source of the concern? I used epoxy grout, and am glad I did. So far it is bulletproof, and am very happy to know that it will never need sealer and to believe that it won't darken over time. Nonetheless, the tiling expert Bill Vincent has expressed the opinion that cementitious grout is perfectly adequate. He acknowledges that epoxy grout performs great, but it seemed to me that his main objection to epoxy grout is the cost. To me, that wasn't a huge factor: it cost me about $250 for epoxy grout, and it would have cost only about $40 for cementitious grout. A big difference, sure, but in the context of the whole ~$3000 floor job, not such a big chunk....See MoreDominic Zhang
