I prefer B but not a fan of either. The blue tile reminds me of grandma’s wallpaper. Both designs need work.

Neither.....you can't clean around the tub in either of them without contorting yourself like a gymnast.

Favorite brand and style of bathroom sink?

    Q

I will just say this, I don't think it is necessary to use the same style sink through out the house. I tend to pick out something and either with pictures, samples or mental notes live with it in my head and see how it marinates. Next, right now you should give your local dealers the opportunity to bid on your products. I found some were still crazy high and others were just a few dollars more then the internet and I was able to get the pieces as I need them. They also came in handy when the hand held hose out of the box was dented and when I took it back they replaced it with an upgrade! I will also add that I purchased medicine cabinets and lights from Improvements Direct and they had great prices and good service hope this helps.

I love all of your suggestions especially the New Venetian Gold! I have chosen a beautiful Ubatuba black w/gold and brown specks. It was very pretty and I hope it will be the star of the bath. I wish I could post pics. Is there an easy way? Thanks to all who responded, suebotinct

I used white dove. Creamy, bright, but sweet too. I used it in my bathroom and kitchen and both have shades of green paint on the walls. Check out this link, http://onthecheapanamericandream.wordpress.com/kitchen/ The kitchen cabinets are white dove, and if you check the formal living / dinning room you will see a hutch in white dove next to green walls. The master bath white is white dove too. Here is a link that might be useful: white dove bm bathroom with green

Pick a faucet for my Moderne tiled bathroom/tub

I don't think you have to worry as much about chrome matching from one maker to another, as you would with other finishes. I've got a chrome bathroom with Kohler tub filler and shower head, Moen shower control valve thing (what IS that called?), Delta lav faucet and towel bars, sconces from one light manufacturer, a ceiling fixture from another, a tub drain assembly that the plumbers chose, and a shower curtain rod whose origin I couldn't tell you either. I just went in and scrutinized, in the best light I could, and can't see any differences in the chrome finishes whatsoever, spaced as they are through a smallish bathroom.

Equally awful both functionally and aesthetically.

Neither. They're fine if you don't actually use them but I can't see how either would be properly functional. glad i'm not the only one.

Neither- the tile pattern wall in A is something that with not stand the test of time and the black tile floor in B is not practical. Both rooms have the space around the tub and shower entirely too cramped. Either eliminate the tub all together or do a tub/ shower combination if there is not enough room to have more space around the tub.

I don't really love either of the two, but -- if forced, I'd choose the blue. The blue feels like a little too much, and the B&W feels a little empty. I'll comment on each:

    Blue bathroom:

    - I do like blue, but this bathroom -- though it is a nice shade and crisp -- takes the color too far. You'd have to use all white linens, which I don't prefer.

    - Loads of storage -- good -- but who could reach those towels on the open shelves to the left?

    - Nice, simple vanity. I like the large handles.

    - Is that a storage niche to the right of the shower? I would rather have hidden that in the pony wall.

    - Entering the shower looks challenging, even for an able bodied person.

    - Where do towels for the shower hang?

    - I like to read in the tub, so I'd want a sconce on the wall or an overhead light to throw light on my book.

    - I do not favor that odd-shaped tub.

    Black bathroom:

    - Huge shower ... too big? So much glass to clean.

    - Like the double storage niches in the shower.

    - Bench is too small for real use, and my butt's pretty small.

    - Again, where does the shower-user hang his or her towel?

    - Prettier tub.

    - Bather's towels could hang to the left of the tub, but that looks like an over-and-stretch to reach.

    - Again, I'd like reading light for the tub.

    - The vanity is attractive, though I'd prefer doors with less depth /less ornamentation ... dust will pile up in these crevices, and it'll really show on the glossy black. Does it have handles, or are they black /blending in?

    - I like that you could bring in any colors through linens ... but overall I'm not a B&W fan.

Style of B, but colorings of A.

I see no problem with the shower door at the end of the counter and I love the freestanding tub. Lots of great storage area and I like the blue pattern. Interesting without being overbearing.

I like the blue but the tile is so busy that the room doesn't seem relaxing. I would choose the black and white and add color with accessories.

    Neither.

I would prefer "THIS" with less energetic pattern on wall. I find it a bit distracting for a relaxing bath.

Neither. If either one were in my house, I’d rip them out and start over!

I initially voted for "that" because it looks cleaner but I am not a fan of the black tile because all I envision are water spots very difficult to keep clean. Not easy to clean around tub either, not enough space. Back to the drawing board...................

I liked the black one because it is visually less cluttered, but I would never install black cabinets - they show every spatter of toothpaste etc. I would go for a lighter grey floor (slate) and a wood vanity. I am also not a fan of free standing tubs - too hard to clean under and on the far side and no grab bars etc. Also, where you would hang up the towels?

I voted That/B but really neither. I would be over the periwinkle blue before the paint dried. Have not seen a free-standing tub I'd want to clean around, nor for that matter do I see a use for a tub in a master bathroom at all, as long as there is another one in the house. I do like (and have) a large low-threshold shower. People are right about water spotting the black: Just put a black sink in the kitchen and while I love it, it does spot up (although arm's reach to clean).

I chose B as less busy looking than A. I’d add pops of colour with towells etc. I’m also a shower person so wouldn’t want either tub. We have a shower/tub combo next to guest bedroom & that is more than adequate. I don’t see the necessity, in recent trends, of such overlarge bathrooms. Living in a very costly part of BC, I’d sooner have more space in other living parts of a home.

I like the tub in the second one.

Both are cleaning nightmares! Behind the tubs and all the glass; fine if you have a meticulous housekeeper, but not for me. Black itself calls for a daily cleanup and I don't think a Roomba works inside a shower very well. Neither of the colors are particularly flattering to most skin tones either. I want to feel like I look good when I come out of the bath, especially if that's where I put on makeup. Storage wise, the blue one gets my vote, but I don't think you could get a wheelchair in either shower, so aging in place could never happen in either one.

Personally, I don't care for either one.

I chose B, and not just because I love black & white but for the space in it. However, I'd get rid of the tub as I do not like them and never take baths. In its place I'd have an open "cabinet" built, basically a top and sides but attractive, under which the cat's litter boxes can go and on top one or two plants (because I'd have to leave room for the cats to get up there and look out the window).

Neither. Though I dislike B less tha A.

A is kind of squashed up, like those design video games where you get to pick stuff and often it does not all fit right, somthing is always off with the size or angle of the image. I like the amount of storage of the cabinets- but that's also helping it look squashed. Tub A looks like it would be more comfortable to me than the B tub.

I like the shower in B, and the wall sconce. But I'm not a fan of the b/w monotone thing or the cabinetry. I could live with B, and just change a lot of color and probably the mirror. Maybe replace the plant and stool with a low bench.

A looks like a big potato chip landed in a kitchen. B seems much more like a normal bathroom with a tub and shower. I don't really understand why a shower needs to be as large as the one in B - does the whole family fit in there? Plus the dog? But it looks more normal and toned down than A.

A- You can change the color of the bathroom, but the STORAGE is the one thing you can not get enough of!!!! Where will you put everything in bathroom B? You can make bathroom A in Black and white if you like that aesthetic…it would still have that same vibe- plus that cool tub!

Neither. Waste of space and money. I do not like either color. It would be a complete gut and remodel.

  • PRO

Not 100 % on either one. I only preferred the black and white because of the ability to change up the color pallet - change paint, towels etc. You aren't locked into a specific color.

Neither. I abhor black and don't even have a single black lamp cord in my house. Also will not choose any colors that are darker than the mid-point on any color chart. For decades, beige was the go-to neutral and now we are seemingly stuck with gray for the foreseeable future. "Designers" who persistently choose black or gray with white display no creativity whatsoever. With all the beautiful colors available in the world, I see no point in being a lemming to "the industry" that claims "in" colors and too many people fall for those supposedly "designer colors" which will always date those choices.

Honestly I see issues with both bathrooms. The tile on the first one would have to go, immediately! Cleaning around that bathtub would be a nightmare and there is no way I could reach the open shelves without standing in the bathtub. I do like the storage, however.

Black cabinets are not a good idea and I don’t like how ornate they are. The bathtub in the second bathroom looks like an afterthought and not part of the original design and again a nightmare to clean around. I love a large shower but it seems a bit out of proportion to the rest of the space. And there is less storage.

Neither. Cannot clean behind the blue bathroom in the corner. Tub is also a poor choice for a family with children to bathe or people with mobility problems to get in and out of tub . Absolutely dislike the trend for glass shower walls. Difficult to keep clean and shiny. Too much work. Had a glass shower door, removed it and went back to shower curtain. In the other bathroom, same problem with the tub and shower glass. Also black tiles show all the water spots and splashes. Please start designing bathrooms for real people in real life living situations and not just what might look pretty in an ad.

I voted for the blue because I hate black but the layout in the black room is better. I don’t care for the blue tile it’s too busy. I hope the owner likes it because that’s all that matters.

Blue tile is To busy for me, don't like tubs!

B is too stark. Needs more adornment. The blue of A is pleasing. I like the frosted windows. I'd be afraid to get into the tub but I like the storage.

    Where are the plants?

While I like the "That" bathroom, two observations. First, I am not sure about a claw tub in that very modern space.. Second, that is a huge amount of glass to squeegee down after every shower. Glass walls need more attention than tile, every missed spot is painfully obvious with glass. My husband and I took to showering one after the other in a similar shower to the "This" example in order to reduce the number of times we had to clean the glass.

Both are good looking bathrooms, good luck!

I dislike both of these equally. A is just too busy, and the position of the tub seems odd, although it has good storage. B is slightly better, but not a fan of black and white colour schemes-black is so hard to keep looking clean

Hey, to each his own! I’m not even sure why the OP posted this question…..he/she should know his/her taste, and what he/she can live with….no one can answer that for them. I also voted THAT, but would never do black cabs or floors, but think some black accents are ok. The reason so many people shy away from so much color or pattern is that they know they will tire of it down the road….I know I fall into that category; no matter how much I may like a photo of a colorful, patterned room….I know I would end up regretting it. There are other ways to add color (rugs, art) that can be more easily swapped out than walls of expensive, colorful cabinetry and tile.

I prefer the black and white. It feels more spa like and has cleaner lines. I love blue, I gravitate to blues, but this is tooooooo much blue. It makes me think of a retro 1950’s or 60’s bathroom.

I really prefer neither. The blue would get old quick

I really prefer the older bathrooms that were just big enough to use. Tub with shower, toilet, vanity with one sink. I did have one that had a closet at one time and I would prefer that. I do NOT like these huge, bedroom size baths. They are too hard to heat and too hard to clean. I do not live in the bathroom and I will never use one with anyone else in it.

    Neither.

I like B… A’s accent wall to be busy and I believe the color will quickly go out of style and look dated..

B is more calming, but too much dark brown for me- the blue in a will get tiring and go out of style especially the wall

    Neither

Black is a beautiful accent color but for bathrooms, I say no. Maybe not everyone has problems with hard water but I've found that black anything that gets wet ultimately begins to show a film of chemicals and I wouldn't want the maintenance of wiping down all of that hardware.

The blue. So much nicer to walk into a cozy, calm bathroom in the morning. Black and white looks good in a photo, but is too stark and cold in real life. The blue tile is too busy and the free-standing tub looks a little cramped in that space. I guess I'm voting more against the B&W than for the blue. The blue has good storage!

THAT (2nd option) looks less...busy. I feel like the bathroom should be a soothing place; a place to slow down and take a moment to breathe. The bathroom is often where you go to retreat from the stresses of life. A hot bath, candles, incense, good book, a glass of wine... To be clear, I vote for the black and white bathroom.

Neither....prefer functional or stylish. Both of these look too cluttered and the style will go out in just a few years.

I love blue and white, especially this blue! I really love the painted cabinetry and the patterned wall. Not a fan of black and white now, although I was at one time.

The blue would be my choice, but lose the tub and create a larger shower/drying area. Those tubs may look good, but are impractical for use & cleaning!

I chose B because easier to ‘add a splash of color’ However from experience black floors are a pain to keep sparkling!
