Elliott Update! Not good

last modified: 4 years ago

I took Elliott in to my vet and the first thing she saw was how inflamed his mouth his. His gums are inflamed and his teeth have tartar. That would explain his swallowing any kibble instead of chewing, and I always add water to his wet food as well, which is a good thing.

He has a severe heart murmur and a cardiogram of sorts, I don't know the medical term, needs to be done to see if he's even strong enough to go under anesthesia. That costs $700. His mouth is a good 2K or more. And we're not even addressing his bladder issues. She said orange males are prone to crystals, infection is rare in males.

I'm floored, I don't want to give him back to his owners, obviously they won't take him in to get his issues fixed. The heart murmur may be why he hasn't gotten his teeth cleaned anyway.

He's home and laying on the floor purring, he was fantastic, at the vet. The vet just loved him and had tears in her eyes.

I told her 5K in one month is a huge cost for me, and she completely understands (2K for Bud and now this).

I did come home with some meds to tame the inflammation so today's bill was $163.

She suggested a GoFund me or I could even give him up to a rescue, where they would handle the medical expenses and put him up for adoption. He'd certainly find a good home, he's a lovely boy.

I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes, my heart is broken.

Absolutely no trauma being at the vet's. He's settled in back home again.
