exterior paint ideas for red brick

This is my first post, so I’m hoping someone can help! We desperately need to repaint our 1958 red brick home. I cannot handle the mustard yellow one second longer. Very few of the homes in our neighborhood have this much not-brick, so I don’t have a ton of examples. And I have NO ideas. I don’t want “too many” colors, but there’s all the big open spaces (incl garage door) in the front and the windows and the shutters and the door. I don’t want it all the same color, and I don’t want super dark. Something with a little bit of pop, but that doesn’t overwhelm the brick. My brain is no good at imagining this sort of thing, can anyone offer suggestions? For reference, that ugly tree on the right side of the pic is now gone, and the Japanese maples in front have been replaced with a porch/deck sort of thing.

Just to clarify: you say you need help painting your brick house. But you’re not painting the BRICK, right?

As far as the current colors of your house - besides the brick - there’s waaaaay too many. For me, anyway. Personally, I’d pick one color for everything except the front door. And then one eye-catching color for the front door.

I'd go with a warm gray, possibly drawing a shade from the mortar between the bricks. Siding and garage door the same color, so garage doesn't become more prominent. (hit the downspout too -- siding color above and brown below the brick line.) I'd also paint whichever entry door will be the "front door" for guests a bright color to draw the eye and make a clear distinction.

I like the colour scheme you have. Perhaps the grey siding could be a tad darker. I would look into cleaning the white spalling on the brick, redoing the landscaping, and add a roof or shelter over your front door. It's a pretty house that just needs a bit of tweaking. Also, when the time comes to replace the shingles, go for black or very dark charcoal.

I really like the combination from Patricia. That sage-y green can look great with certain brick. I think your #2 color looks good with the brick (and mortar). Remember you need the color you choose to work with the roof, too. Computer screens can be iffy, but your #1 choice looks somewhat similar to the sage from Patricia. on my screen.

Definitely think the whitewash will look good. And I think it will match your style. I Totaly Hear you. It is permanent. I would recommend doing a small patch and seeing how you like it. I believe you can wash it right off within 24 hours.

You’ve probably done this, but if not, search things like ’red brick trim colors’ … ’red brick ranch house trim colors’ … ’red brick color schemes’ … etc. Lots of inspiration!

Great house, new colors will really transform it. Glad you’re keeping the brick as is. :)

I think you're going to have to prime it all anyway, so why not do that first? That will change it all to white and you'll immediately get some relief from the mish-mash of color. Then you can better decide what will be the best colorway for you. Here's a different idea with an orangey-red brick.

Remembering to factor in your grey roof color, smoky blues or sage would be lovely. (Black would also be stunning, but a bold move that may or may not suit your neighborhood and personality.)

Lots of pretty things, thanks for pointing me in some good directions. I like the sage a lot, which surprises me. As for the suggestion just to prime it and let it be for a bit - yes. Thank you. That’s what I needed someone to tell me. I’d been thinking about that, sort of, but then thought it seemed dumb to do it in two stages. But maybe it isn’t. Maybe it would be good just to reset the whole thing so I can think clearly!

Should the garage door and the area around the front windows be the same color? That seems like a lot of one color, but doing a second makes it feel - to me - like there’s too many different colors.

Do you like this "After"? The trim and garage door is Ben Moore Pale Oak and the siding is Ben Moore Rockport Gray. I'd probably use the Rockport on the fascia too, given your gray roof and I'd take off the shutters and focus on landscaping. You could leave your pretty blue door.

A gray/green with your brick and roof would be nice. Yes, same color for garage and front window area.

Agree, remove the shutters. I think an olive green would look pretty awesome, like the first house posted by Jinx. Or a sage green.

If you keep the storm door, paint it to match the front door.
