tile to wood threshold question
Comments (5)Does your transition look like this? This transition is on year four I think. Looks great. No Chaulk. Chaulking tends to look "Cheap" and often a hairline crack is a nicer look than a bead of chaulking. The rule books want to see chaulking but most of my clients prefer the look of my transitions vs the described "best practice". This small tile floor is heated and the transition is raised. There is some flex and if the floor was a larger format tile and the transition was flush to the hardwood floor I would have gone with a sanded chaulk. Each transition is a subject of debate. One rule does not cover every single install. When I show clients the options most here in Vancouver prefer to leave the chaulking in the tube. Comments (7)Thanks for the suggestion pcweary! Yours looks great. I ended up going to my local stone shop to buy my vanity countertop. They said they could make a transition for me with a slope to meet the dimensions I need with the same material as the counter top. I'll try and post pictures after its installed to show how it looks....See Moreneed help choosing wood flooring with granite threshold.
Comments (2)The sunroom was an addition to the kitchen and the floor unfortunatley is not even. We've already installed the 3/4" plywood to make them even. The floor would still be a 1/2" higher when we reach the sliding glass doors. We would have to remove the sliders and build the floor up, its more work than we want to do, which is why we have the 2" stepdown. We're leaning towards the dark bamboo....See Morethreshold issue where tile meets floor
Comments (6)Is there a height difference? I see two options. It looks like you have extra tile in the pictures, if so you could cut the wood to an even margin and fill the space with cut tiles. Another option is to cut the wood floor to an even margin and then fill in the gap with wood running in the other direction in a contrasting or color matched stain. You could run the new wood in the direction of the existing floo but all those short pieces in a row would look odd to me....See MoreSammie J
