After all, what holds a neck together or am I thinking of something else? Chicken necks are deceptively long. Maybe they're baby swan necks. I wonder if the human neck looks long once the head is removed? So is there a good recipe for stock that doesn't use a ton of leeks or what can I substitute for leeks? Actually Caroline, "SPAM" refers to the canned product. Both "Spam" and "SPAM" are registered trademarks of Hormel and should refer to the canned item while "spam" is the unsolicited commercial email, though when used to start a sentence, it would be appropriate to capitalize it. Just FYI. Occasionally that greasy canned stuff is ok, fried and served with eggs, potatoes and toast. I don't really care for canned meats of any kind and don't care for any unsolicited commercial email of any kind! Just because email is unsolicited does not make it spam. If I send you, well, let's put it this way, if YOU send ME an email and say "hi" or ask a question, that's unsolicited but not spam. The ones that are commercially motivated, i.e. trying to make money, via semi-legitimate or scam methods is the key to truly calling it "spam". There's many ways to recognize the UCE spam. As mentioned, but when they put your name, and several others in various forms, for instance, yourname@yourisp, yorname@yourisp, yourname@yoisp... you know it's a spammer. If it shows your address as the sender? It's spam. I always tell people for instance if they're contacting me through GW, to put in the subject something like "it's (sender) from GW" and I always do that too. Then the recipient can choose to open it or not. Let's face it, spam works. People buy the stuff. People send the personal info they ask for. People are STOOPID! And because of this we all suffer. And the forward button should be removed from all browsers. People forward garbage and that is conspiring with spammers and makes you a spammer when you do it. People are too lazy to check to see if it's true, they'll just send it to their address book just in case or because it coincides with their political or religious belief and it doesn't matter if it's a lie.

So many good responses. I agree with so much already said. Vampiressrn comment that "I think there is a lot of gray area here" is very much to the point. If I tell a poster that I also have a bed in the corner, and I link to my blog photo, and the blog has an advertisement for smelling salts, one person might feel that it's a ploy for smelling salts sales, and one might just see it as a helpful link. Given that, I don't think most of us are patrolling for spam, or getting all up in it over posts with links or blog links. When other posters start labeling something as "spam" it usually is. And if I have a website called Redbazel and you click on it, that's on you. Doesn't mean my posting with the same screen name I've used for 10 years is spam. If I post that I HAVE a website, and you email me to ask about it, that is also on you. Doesn't mean I tried to dredge up hits to my website. Now, I'm glad that the votes thing got brought up. While I don't think anyone here had any bad motives when they asked for ugliest kitty votes, or pinkest cheek votes or dancing with penguin votes, I don't really think the decorating forum is the place for this. If you want to call your friends and solicit votes, I guess that's ok. But I really think that votes should also be based on real feelings. So if I click on the "Vote for MY recliner!!" thread and I find that Magnaverde's recliner is in a Glen plaid and I truly love some anonymous recliner in gray velvet, it's annoying to see all the votes go to MV just because he happens to be an outstanding GW poster instead of to the anon. owner of the very pretty gray velvet. It skews the voting process. If it's popularity votes you want, My vote is for MV. If we are Really voting for nice recliners, I'm going to check the box next to the velvet with the feather headrest and the built-in remote. Red **No blogs, so don't hunt for them!!

The only way Chili's has your addresses is if you (or someone) gave them to them. If it's a legitimate Chili's email you're perfectly safe to use their unsubscribe link. But I'm not sure it's actually coming from Chili's from the limited description given. Hijacked address lists and such are usually from people who refuse to secure their computers and it makes it tougher for everyone else. This is why I quit using any email account but the freebie webmails (unless of course for work accounts). Then it's a simple matter to close it and set up a new one when people expose me to the hassles. Computers, like cars and, well, people for that matter, require some basic maintenance and protection. Spammers are getting creative and make things look legitimate and people get fooled easily, which the scammers and spammers count on to profit. People buy or just plain send money to them. It's profitable, which is why they do it. If nobody sent them money, they wouldn't bother. Plus when people forward everything, they're asking for trouble. They give a list of addresses without using bcc and not only expose themselves but everyone in the list. Then a bunch of those people hit the forward button too, refuse to use bcc and expose that many more, and so on and so on. The forward button is the cause of a lot of problems for a lot of people. I seldom even open forwarded emails, especially from certain people. Some are only sending dumb jokes I've heard before, "warnings" that are hoaxes and political rhetoric and false anyway or are silly chain emails purporting that if you love God, you'll spam everyone you know plus 100 people.... If people can't take ten seconds to set up a new email, bcc it and clean off the extraneous characters they're rude and inconsiderate and I don't care to try to decipher the email >>>>>though ::>>:all >>>the >>>>>garbage. Are you running a good firewall? Have you run antivirus *and* anti-malware programs lately? Secured your browser? Now's a good time to do it if you haven't. Most will run in the background and many can be set up to run automatically so effort is minimal.
