Need some ideas for the yard to deal with the neighbor
Comments (60)Hey Greg, I have been meaning to send you an email..but things here are so crazy..havent been posting much, but hope to get some pics of the yard for you all to see... Hopefully i'll get some time to do this soon.. As far as this June or July ...getting free time is going to be limited...My daughter is going to have Open Heart Surgery in two weeks..so im quite nervous and busy getting thing ready for the event... I wasnt going to post..but she has already posted it all over face book.... I guess things are not the way we used to handle these delicate matters...She is only 25 yrs oldd and needs to have her Aortic Valve replaced. Needless to say all of my time will be devoted to her in the next few weeks... I hope everyone is enjoying there summer... As far as the neighbor...he is so worried about trying to get his grass started...he mows it when its wet..then it burns up..then the whole process starts over again..lol So ill just continue to spray and keep the ivy back on his side..he will never do anything about it.. Take care.. Laura in VB...See MoreI need some ideas.... about to end a 17 year marriage; should I?
Comments (6)I'm pretty sure there is more to it than what has been said. It's almost impossible to put it all in one post. What I interpret is that he doesn't have a problem with your daughter's kids, but that if you had custody of them, he'd have to deal with your daughter, which he has washed his hands of. You seem to agree that he has cause to feel that way so at least you are on the same page there. If she's that bad that her own mother has had enough, then I feel really sorry for those kids. Yes, they will always be tied to their mother, even if you have custody. and so you have to choose between your grandkids and your husband of 17 years. OUCH! Perhaps you could seek legal advice on getting guardianship of the kids and a restraining order on her? I don't know how bad she is or if you just don't agree with her choices. But, if it's hurting your grandkids, you have to put them first. They are kids and need someone in their corner. If it has to be you, then it has to be you. If he can't deal with it, then it's unfortunate. It sounds like a real mess if there are accusations from your daughter (of what?) that your husband doesn't want to deal with. I feel like there's a lot more to it than what you've said. If he just stuck around to help raise your kids, then they are raised and now he is going to leave because you 'might' get your grandkids. It's really a no win situation....See MoreNeed ideas for flowers/landscaping for my tiny zone 5 front yard
Comments (8)Based on your last picture, I would begin removing lower branches from the tree in an attempt to regain a view of the house and so that lawn can be maintained easily below the tree. To not remove lower limbs encourages the upright oriented limbs to become future trunks and compete with the main trunk. Not that that is bad in and of itself, if that's what one wants. But it often results in a trunk formation that is less attractive when trunks branch below the canopy. (Unless it's a multi-trunk tree and then it looks best if it "branches" at the ground.) It's already happened and when allowed to go too far, is too difficult to correct without maiming the tree's appearance. Also, the one low branch on what looks to be a weeping cherry at left corner of house seems odd and out of place. I would get rid of the white gravel mulch and replace it with wood-based mulch. Plan so that plants eventually cover everything and there is no longer need for mulch. In my drawing I'm showing an idea for creating a landing off of the stoop. It's not a finished plan, but you could create a workable plan that improves the approach to the entrance. I'm surmising that the slab continues behind the hedge, in which case, I'd get rid of the hedge and all plants in front of it and bring only grass to slab ... the purpose being to make a welcoming entrance instead of a secret, purposeless hideaway. It is not necessarily the case that ADDING plants is the key to improving your property. The large shrub left of walk seems too close to the walk. If you can't relocate it to in-line with the window (about 4' from the wall,) I'd scrap it and get another shrub for that location. I'm showing only groundcover around the weeping cherry. It looks a bit junky to have those other plants coming up under it....See MoreTiny yard, new build with pool, and we need privacy ideas.
Comments (7)I have Sky Pencil and I've been dissatisfied with it and thinking of pulling it out. Mine is quite tall, I've moved it twice. The problem I have is that it separates and hangs down unless I tie it up with twine. Which I do every winter, but when I take the twine off it does just separate. I was going to keep the twine on year round, but, somehow the twine broke and I see it is waving from the shrub and the shrub in all the wind we've had this year, is just going every which way....See Moremindshift
