Comments (2)The most effective means of preventing cytospora occurrence in trees is to plant resistant species only, and to do all that you can do to provide them with a stress-free and damage-free environment. This fungal organism, like most that can cause plant diseases, is ubiquitous. But a healthy specimen from a resistant species is a VERY safe candidate to replace your cherry. By the way, I would do a careful search regarding the disease and insect problems of dogwood. In some locations, this plant is having a most difficult time. That may not be the case in your area, but you ought to look into it....See MoreWhat kind of grain do you recommend for tabbouleh?
Comments (25)ATK had a show in which they made tabbouleh last week (or maybe earlier), and it reminded me that I have a lot of parsley in my yard (plus a fair amount of mint) and that it would be an easy matter to make tabbouleh, once I bought some Bulgar wheat. I had recorded the ATK show as a reminder, and when I watched it again, I noticed that they recommended using medium grind Bulgar. I had bought Bob's Red Mill Bulgar without paying attention to the grind (it looked right to me), and the package has a tabbouleh recipe on it. Later I noticed that it is whole grain Bulgar, but the salad I made with it came out the way I expected it to. I used a variation of a Lebanese recipe, which, incidentally, called for fine grind Bulgar. I guess I need to store the leftover Bulgar in the freezer, as I did not use that much of it (only 1/2 cup). I made a sort of vinaigrette dressing for it with the juice of two lemons, 6 Tbsp olive oil, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1 large clove of garlic (from Katy). Garlic was optional in the Lebanese recipe, but I decided to add it since I have a good supply, and I wanted to see how Katy's garlic would do in a vinaigrette. The salad tastes like it needs a bit more salt, and I was thinking of serving it with Feta cheese. I don't want to mix the cheese in, but I thought it might make a nice addition to the salad....See MoreCommercials that please you :)
Comments (31)I've seen a couple of TV ads for socks. Imagine advertising *socks* on TV! One donates a pair to the homeless for every pair sold. Bonobos? I really like a short one for another company. (I've only seen it twice, so not sure of the brand...Klocks?) A pretty brunette wears a long-tailed white shirt over her excellent legs. She sits to put on purple socks, then is so enthralled that she gets up, plays air guitar and does a few ballet steps before exiting to the right of the screen -- returning half way to wave goodbye. No dialogue, just voice-over and music. Delightful....See MoreBrownies: then and now (cannabis, of course)
Comments (16)Hi Louise - If I am making cannabutter in the crock pot I do grind it finely in a coffee grinder first, put 1 oz. into a mason jar and decarboxylate in the oven for ~1 hour at 220F. Melt 2 lbs. unsalted butter in a crock pot on low, add cannabis and cook for 3-4 hours stirring every 30 minutes. Then I put a layer of cheese cloth into a fine metal mesh strainer and pour the butter through that. You will probably end up with a little over 1.5 lbs if you get every drop you can. Then I spoon it into ice cube trays and put it in fridge until solidified....See More1929Spanish-GW
