Food, food, food, remember this old classic?
Comments (28)The kids and I LOVE Tuna Casserole. DH HATES it! We don't have it anymore, but now I am thinking the heck with him, I want it! LOL I make it like this. Cook a 8 oz bag of egg noodles. Drain and cool slightly. Put in casserole with 1 can tuna 1/2 cup Miracle Whip about 1 cup diced celery and 1/3 cup chopped onion 1/2 cup milk Mix all ingredients. Heat one can cream of celery soup and 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese until cheese is melted. Add to cooked noodle mixture. Salt and pepper it. Top with crushed potato chips. Bake at 425 about 20 minutes....See MoreFrugal food makes me fat!
Comments (15)A great frugal but delicious dish is homemade vegetable soup made with cheap soup bones. Bake the bones first to give them a little color, then put them into a large kettle well covered with water, add garlic, onions, seasonings, simmer until bones are falling apart, several hours. Then add your favorite vegs. I like chopped cabbage, celery, carrots, garbanzos, zucchini, potato, sweet potato, corn on the cob, tomato. You can add lean meat if you want, I now also add bouillon cubes, just watch added salt. Divide it into refrigerator containers, discard bare bones. When cool, remove any fat that accumulates on top. Then I freeze in pint or serving size containers. My kids and DH have always loved this. This is great with fresh rolls or bread and can feed an army with very little meat. You can also add tofu to increase protein. My mom used to make soup like this but she used chicken feet which she got free from meat processors nearby. They cooked up faster but the bones were also always free, sometimes they even had meat on them....See MoreAnyone used a hanging track-type 'pocket' door?
Comments (3)Yopu can make a 'track' on the bottom to hold the door from swinging. A couple inches of aluminum angle attached to the floor that barely capture the door when closed (in a full pocket you can run the piece the whole length). The aluminum will be concealed when the door is open, and if you make sure the door is at least 1-2 inches wider than the opening it will remain concealed on the hanging side. A groove in the bottom of the door rides on the angle and prevents swinging....See MoreQuestion about calorie intake
Comments (11)You can loose weight by increasing the calories burned by exercise and keeping the food intake the same. The hazard is that exercise can trigger a healthy appitite and you may increase your food intake. The best compromise is to reduce your food intake somewhat and increase physical activity. If working with gym equipment and performing a set or exercises is not your bag, then use walking and bike riding. When you walk, use a pace greater than a stoll. Slow walking is relaxing, but does not burn as much calories per unit of time than a vigorous walk. Find excuses to walk: Walk to the post office; Walk to the neighborhood grocery store; Walk the pet; Walk a trail; explore part of your neighbothood by walking; rake the yard; Garden; Pull weeds; Play a round of disc golf; Take a walking tour with your camera; When it snows, dig out the fire hydrants. At work, use the stairs instead of the elevator to go up or down one or two floors. You can do that in about the same time as using the elevator and as you physique improves, it will take less time to move one floor....See Moreamylou321
