Why Can't I Erase Computer History?

This started a couple of weeks ago. I've always held down the arrow for 'back' to bring up History, then hit 'Clear History' to erase. Now, when I hit Basic Clear the 'spin' thingy goes 'round but nothing gets erased. Is there another route to accomplish this?

What browser are you using?

Have you tried opening the preferences menu yet?

Seems to me every time Microsoft updates, clearing cookies and history is in a diifferent place. have you done a google search of your question? I know I’m no help.

I think it is a GW problem. At least, GW is the only site where I am having it. I can now enter my password and post using my computer and my iPad, as I am now doing, but I still cannot log in via iPhone. It keeps telling me that I must log in after I enter my user name and password on the iPhone. My updates are current, if that matters. No, no error message appears, no passwords have changed. At the time of the JFK assignation, I was with a National corporation, based in Atlanta, GA. We were a distribution point for several product lines. We had IBM Tabulators which prepared customer statements "in-house" for certain products. For another product line, all data was transmitted daily via a punched tape to Detroit where all invoices, inventory records, etc. were done. And, the University I attended had computers back in the 1950s. I know for sure they were offering classes in computer programming by 1962. I see nothing out of the ordinary by the comment from that book. As a side note, I'm currently reading an interesting book about the 3 assignations of the era - JFK, Bobby, and MLK called the "Legacy of Secrecy."

since you have already done what you decided to do I would most definitely set her up as Administrator on the pc and set up a user name and hard password for the pc so that anyone there can not access it they would have to know her name and password to enter the pc. Other wise they can just sit at her pc and do anything and that leads to infections and she does not need that. Be sure you load some of the good free antivirus programs on it like AVAST which does work on 98 and malwarebytes free, make sure she knows how to update and run scans. I would also put spywareblaster free on there and show her how to hit the update button once a week on it and then hit the enable all protection no scans to run it just runs in the back ground. I would also install firefox on it and have her use that instead of IE.

Linked below are dozens of very good tutorials for Win 7. Take a look through. Some are worthwhile but others seem just fancy dickering but to each his own. Your page would scroll if it was longer. Hitting ctrl, shift and delete brings up my box to clear History. Then I click on whatever options I want......data, cookies, cache, etc.

Google Chrome. AT&T Yahoo! for email. I can pull up History. I can pull up the Delete History. But nothing happens when I select Delete of any amount of past dates. I eventually just shut it down.

I don't use Chrome very much - generally only for the rare times I use Facebook - but I opened it just now to see if I could clear my history there.

I'm using a desktop right now, and I typed Ctrl+H to open "history" to edit it, and then clicked on "Clear browsing data" and was able to delete my history there. I had to make sure that I selected the appropriate time range, as the default was only the last hour.

FWIW, Chrome has been acting so funky on my Mac that I switched to Firefox several months ago. I still use Chrome for some things, but it stalls, freezes and gives me security messages for practically every site, blocking access to some - even Google Image 🙄

P.S. Do you need to erase your computer history? Do you share the computer with someone else?

Thanks all! No, carol, I don't need to erase it. I was just told to do so from time to time to clear the clutter. Once I had to clear it from the past hour or two in order to get a new command to work.

So I just realized calling it computer history may be incorrect. Are you just referring to your browser history?

I do share a computer with others. I've found that using Firefox gives me fewer issues. The history always comes up and I can delete everything I've done. I've not been able to easily find this function when I use Chrome.

In my Chrome browser on my Mac computer, I click 'History', then 'Show Full History' at the bottom of that menu, and I see this:

carol -- Yup. That's what I see, but it refuses to PERFORM when I click Clear Browsing Data. I guess I can just leave it to accumulate unless I have another circumstance where I have to clear to get free of a loop where commands aren't working.
