***Calling MaNature and other Bird Enthusiast's***
Comments (14)Here I am! *waving madly* Sorry I missed this. Since my mother moved in, I don't get to spend nearly enough time on the computer, and Kate's right, I've been working like a thing possessed in my garden. So much dead stuff to clean out. It's taking forever! But I am replacing most of it with cold hardy things as I go, so I have some pretties to keep me company while I work. TF, congratulations on your buntings! Aren't they just the most gorgeous things? My goldfinches FINALLY showed up, many in full breeding plumage, and last week one male painted bunting was with them. He only stuck around a day, though. An indigo followed later in the week and left after a day, too. What I do have that's majorly cool is a gorgeous red summer tanager who feeds from my tray feeder every day. He's a real beauty. And I've had a bronze-headed cowbird a couple of times, too. A pain in the neck in some ways, but a very pretty bird in his own right. So, TF...you've been grappling with grackles, eh? *grin* I LOVE grackles. They strut and preen and are so full of themselves. Birds with attitude! They make me laugh. So nice to see you are enjoying your birds. Thanks for sharing with us. Marcia...See MoreCall me at work if you plan on purchasing a 'system built' home
Comments (2)Michele: Could you type up a brief check list from your experience of things that everyone that reads this forum can have a heads up. Also this could be info searched in the future (archieve) to help many other potential modular buyers. Also could you mention the company that you purchased it from and would you recommend them. I am going to buy one in the future and I am looking for a company that stands behind there products. So any info you have will be extremely valuable to all. I have toured the Design Homes factory and was very impressed. But I have toured other factories and some companies are 20 to 30% less expensive than them. Price isn't everything and I am always interested in how is the servcie after they have my money. Thanks in advance....See MoreCalling all home bakers with quartz counters
Comments (16)I'm with Linelle (uber hot things on top of the cooktop, or SS surround). Still, we haven't babied our Cambria Quartzite at all (including the occasional cutting by certain people directly on top of it - no names, ahem) and it's held up very well. Love it as a prep surface. As a baker, have you considered/are you able to consider deeper countertops (and uppers)? Just pull out the lower cabinets by 6" (for more cost effective solution). If uppers are deeper by the same amount, it works perfectly. 30" countertops: (in hindsight, I would have ordered deeper lower cabinets). I can roll out a pie dough and not move the canisters. Here's my old baking (prep, cleanup, baking) area; as you can see, the deeper countertops (regardless of surface) are so helpful. The deeper uppers above this area allow me to store my serving bowls vertically: Best of luck!...See MoreCalling kitchen enthusiasts: HELP! Which layout? What to consider?
Comments (15)Thanks @anj_p I will re-consider the windows : ) I mean we're not big fancy cookers. But, we have two young children, so I mean, we cook and we need storage... But I don't think either layout has that much storage at all. I don't have any other pantry space. So, it's approx 15 ft for cabinetry and stove on that wall. The other wall is fridge and a reach in pantry of approx same dimensions as fridge that will be all our pantry storage. That doesn't seem like much to me to eliminate two of the four wall cabinets for windows?? The kitchen nook will have a wall with three windows and one window on right wall. The family room will have a large sliding glass door flanked by panel of floor to ceiling windows on either side, and windows on either side of the fireplace.. And it's a fairly narrow house, 30 ft wide, with only about 15 feet from neighbors on either side.....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
