Tell me about Wollerton Old Hall
Comments (25)Oh, I should have added that when we purchased them, WOH was being sold by Austin's as a Shrub Rose. Now, they are only selling it as a Climber. This is a good move. The only images I have are the blooms from the first year and they are almost identical to Zuzu's beautiful image. Yes, this is exactly what the flowers are like. The other factor is that the stems are long and the heavy weight of the blooms does cause them to droop. I have just moved them all and have planted them against a south facing wall amongst Etoile de Hollande, Guinee and Claire Austin climbers where the stems should get more support. It IS a beautiful rose........I'm sure you'll love it....See MoreThe Hall of Enjoyment - Roses worth watering
Comments (7)Lovely bouquet! I got my water bill last week. YIKES! It was double what I expected and I expected it to be high. I see that I'm going to have to make some changes in who, what, how and how much water things get in the future. I've been planning to down size from my nearly 200 roses altogether anyway. I've got some dogs out there that are certainly NOT worth their water! Snowfire, Frankly Scarlet, Elle, Yantai, Tattooed Lady, and a bunch of minis I got from QVC have done terrible either not blooming at all (Snowfire) or only blooming once the whole seasons. And only one bloom then to boot. I think these will all be sent to the garden in the sky this fall. The best of the best and very worth their water are: Julia Child! Always in bloom and hardly a spot anywhere ever. Home Run has turned out to be much nicer than Knock Out. Healthy and in constant bloom where as the KO is always spotty and slow to repeat. Brilliant Pink Iceberg blooms a lot, repeats quickly and doesn't BS much. Softee is a great garden mini and always has a constant display of huge sprays of blooms. Grows like a weed too! Zenaitta has been pumping out nice big sprays all summer. It does spot some what but not horribly and is never nekkid like some are. My new Eyeconic Pink Lemonade has been wonderful! NO spots and blooms on it all summer. A lot of the minis have been good even though almost all of them do spot regularly. Chelsea Brittlyn, Winsome, Rainbows End and Miss Flippins have been bloom machines all season. The rest have been so so, some blooms, some spots, some problems....See MoreBreeder's Hall - 24 - David, Noeline & Greg Sampson NZL

Comments (16)The blue clematis I love best for growing among the roses is H.F. Porter (on the right, with no roses). The blooms are very large, a lovely wedgewood blue like the color of periwinkle or the chickory flowers that grow on the roadside with Queen Anne’s lace. The Porter flower looks so pretty with the roses that I often cut a portion of the vine to put in a vase of roses! The other photo is Jackmanii with Dream Weaver...See Moredianela7analabama
