Is this closet big enough for a full sized stacked washer/dryer
Comments (6)I am interested what you find out because former owner had W/D in upstairs hall (kids) bath and we moved it to basement since there was no room to actually store detergent, fold clothes, etc. Now we are remodeling and are struggling to find a place on first or second floor since we know it's better for resale (though we may not be selling for many years) Would it be on the order of $5,000 to run new plumbing into a closet? Is it worth it when we already have the plumbing set up in an alcove in the bathroom? Is it really better to take up MBR closet space than to put in a kids bathroom? There's absolutely nowhere on first floor we can fit a W/D....See MoreKids' Bedrooms & Closet Sizes
Comments (28)Jack and jill- if there's room, consider two separate toilet closets, on either side. When kids are small, won't make a big difference. As they grow- big difference. In my latest build, we have what our architect called a "room and a half". Bigger than most. Perfect size for two children, built in desk/shelves (storage to the sides, in a nook), and a reach in closet, built out a bit with drawers/shelves and good divided hanging space. We're empty nesters, but we have a lot of family. You never know when this space could become meaningful for an older person, who would find a nice space with good natural light as a calm place to be, when solitude is needed. Play rooms? I love them. These are the spaces that can contain toddler "mess" and fun, fund to build forts in, as they get a bit older, transition into study areas or even great space for teenage "hang-out". Much better than having them all go into a bedroom or two. Flex space is very valuable, if you ever decide to sell....See More14 X 12 Kitchen - Ideal Island Size
Comments (31)Coming from a momma with four kiddos who also lives on acreage. Please know I'm not tearing apart this plan I'm just pointing out things that I know I would want. Also I do not know what part of the country you are in. We live in Minnesota so messy cold wet snowy things we need a spot to dump them(voice to text). We also have lots of dirt and gravel and that sort of thing. -First off I would want an entrance directly from the outdoors, that's a family entrance with a large closet, either open or closed lockers lots of Boot & Shoe storage. -With five kiddos I would prefer laundry near their bedrooms. -I would not want a laundry walkthrough from the garage ALTHOUGH a 2nd laundry for dirty barn clothes near family entrance is wonderful! No extra carrying of messy clothes to laundry. My laundry room is never pinterest-worthy ;) and I like to be able to shut the door not think about that :) - master bedroom closet, I do not see one. - Closet in your entryway. Again I'm not sure what part of the country are in so maybe you don't need to have storage for company's coats but you do have a big extended family so?? Would you be having hooks on the walls or??? - do you need a bathroom that your Ranch hands use or is that in one of your outbuildings? - I love the idea of an office space with books, I would think of it more as a library do you think that you would utilize that space with all that desk area or would you rather have it a reading Nook? Absolutely love using two 30 inch ranges. In my opinion it is the perfect way to get a 60 inch range for an excellent price point....See Morehow do I best organize my weirdly sized walk-in closet?
Comments (5)Plan the closet for your current needs, and alter it if the needs change. Elfa gives you a lot of flexibility. So, what ARE the current needs? Hanging? long or short? Party clothes, or professional work clothes, somewhat casual work, casual casual? Slacks, trousers, or jeans? shorts, skirts, dresses? Suits? Sweaters? Tees, polos, golf shirts? Button-downs or blouses? Accessories? Belts, ties, scarves? Hats, caps? Handbags, totes, briefcase? What about jewelry? Me, i had a closet where my necklaces actually hung around the closet bar conpletely tangle-free, and a chest below held the jewelry box on top for bracelets, and my dainties in the drawers. Will you want drawers in your closet for underwer and socks? Will you keep some things in the bedroom? Get thee to The Container Store or California Closets or your local closet planner with a list of what will go in the closet and how you like to store them, and they will help you come up with a solution for you. One caveat, do not let them plan hanging rods that meet in a corner. No, nope, no....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
