I can only say that we have had the Rejuvenation latches for 12 years and I still love-love-love them. No split wood or any other issues, and two of the cabinets get daily use. Ours are on flush inset cabinetry (and we also have one on our bathroom cabinet, with no issues there either). I will say that lining up the latches is important and takes some precision, so I can imagine a GC not being super excited about that. But our cabinetmaker had no problem getting it right, and that's not specific to Rejuvenation's latch design. ETA: We have solid poplar frames with MDF panel inserts for painted cabinets. The material could make a difference?

Go for springloaded gate closer and magnetic lock. FYI Only: Not quite what you need for your pool however I'm using the following for the pedestrian gate adjacent to our development's entry gate. I installed and maintain the electronics. This will also have an additional bluetooth interface for folks who don't want to use keypad plus a bunch of other gizmos I cannot reveal to the public. Keep in mind that there are two elements to the upcharge: The hardware cost difference and the labor cost difference. Most of the cabinetmakers I have talked with have said that they initially upcharged for the Tandem undermount soft-close slides. However, once they'd used them a few times, they realized they were saving a lot of time on installation because the slides are so forgiving and adjustable - so many cabinetmakers no longer upcharge for those slides. IMO anyone who tries to talk you out of those slides just doesn't want to learn any new tricks. And agreed with the comment above: Plan for those drawer slides now - the retrofit soft close bumpers don't compare at all.

Wait until they start driving and slam the hands in the car doors. brutal. both of my boys have done that. Oh, man, no kidding!!! :-( Reminds me of a time we went to the beach for my birthday -- back when I only had 4 or 5 kids, I can't remember lol -- and one of my toddlers got his little fingers slammed into the *hotel* bathroom door by one of his brothers. Those doors are like safe/vault doors! :-O Speaking of hotels, Baby #5 was crawling up on a hide-a-bed couch once, and I looked over to see that a sibling had handed him a toothbrush. I started toward him, to stealthily remove the toothbrush, and before I could get there, he fell between the couch arm and the wall, nearly shoving the toothbrush through the side of his cheek. That bruise lasted like a week, making me cringe every time I saw the poor little guy. I wanted to take him to the ER, and my husband was like, "He's fine. Mouths bleed a lot, but he's fine."
