Lighting Design Dilemma Kitchens

Kitchen Island Lighting - Darlana Lantern (S or M?)

Hello, I am in the middle of building a semi-custom new home and need help with my island pendant lighting. My ceilings will be 9ft high and

y kitchen island is:

L: 106"

W: 34"

I am doing two Darlana Lantern's over the island - I already have the electric decided BUT my question is do I do the small (12.5"W) or medium (17"W) lanterns? I like the idea of having an oversized statement pendant but worried the medium would look ridiculous.

IMO island lighting should light the island not the ceiling and as for size of course that depends on many things including the fixture . In my head I see no reason to not go a bit larger but your island in very narrow so think about that since 17" visually takes up a lot of space above a narrow island. But IMO the wrong fixture .

I disagree with him, most new kitchen will have recessed lighting which is enough for lighting up for space. Pendant lighting is not only functional also a decorative piece like jewel for your kitchen.

Have you considered adding a hint of color in your bs tile - perhaps something with a touch of green and grey to compliment the stone? The vitrail series from fireclay tile is available in many glazes and sizes, and I think it would go well with the overall feel you've created, a kind of refined rustic chic. I'd go with smaller to med 2 lights 10" or if you are doing a lantern as they have little visual obstruction and you can get a way with a bit larger light. A single at only 11" will be terribly dwarfed on an island just shy of 7 feet. You can do the balloon on a string test and push pin them to the ceiling over the island: two balloons blown up to 10" so you can better visualize if you think you need to go smaller or larger a little you can then try it again. You want about 30" between your fixtures... a pinch less is no big deal.

The wall ovens are from the late 1960s. Those GE ovens are more reliable that anything you could buy today. We had those in my parents house, sold the house with them and they worked fine when the house was sold. Nutone Food Center to the right. I don't know that the marble around the sides isn't older. I am not sure if they would have reset the Nutone Food Center on the side counter if they just now replaced the counter. I don't know that that area is a desk so much as it is for seated prep and baking. Many of the attachments that are put on a Nutone Food Center are tall, and it brings the work height up higher.

i don't know what size specifically, but some advice I read on this forum a while ago mentioned blowing up some balloons of various diameter and hanging them up to give you a good idea on size. good luck!

I think medium will be great, for length of the island. I got large fancy darlana lanterns for my kitchen which I think they are too big for my island.but I stocked with them since I can not return them after installation.
