I have a small to medium size window over my bed and also went without a headboard for years. Finally found this style sleigh bed that barely covers the bottom trim on my window. The attached Google search shows some examples. I can't find the exact one that I have, but the footboard is only two or three inches taller than the mattress. Look at the second picture - that is almost like mine. See how there is room for the picture over the headboard - my window is larger than that. I only use blinds. Someday I may try straight panels and pull the bed out a few inches just for some color/texture. You might also look at platform beds if you don't want a footboard. I forgot to add ONE HUGE DETAIL!!! The mattress height from the top of the mattress to the floor is 29" with a steel frame that is 8" from the floor. Boxspring is 9", mattress is 12." So the bottom of the bottom of the mattress sits 8" from the floor. Most complete beds with a head and footboard are 10+" from the bottom of the boxspring. I would be adding at least two additionalinches to the bed height! That is my DILEMMA! This is what happens when I peruse the forum prior to having my morning coffee!!! Sorry I inadvertently left out this big detail. That is the reason I do not think I can use a foot-board. I don't want a step stool (or ladder -haha) to get into the bed! I know the style of bed I want, but the challenges lies in trying to find that bed with a frame that is less than 10" from the floor.

We had our head board made 2 years ago. Its a king size, I just measured the head board, from the floor to the top, it's 63" high.

With seven million headboards online, why not get the right size? Otherwise a bargain it is NOT. If you want the bargain? A better install is to bolt the headboard legs to the WALL ( find the studs ) and shove the frame and its mattress up TO the headboard. To get flush to the wall? Cut away the base molding, and note if the headboard is open enough below, to allow access to any electrical outlets. Or....... screw a 1 x 4 cut to length to the back of the headboard, and drill and do that just below your mattress height. I do this for any custom upholstered headboards. They ALL shake unless bolted to the wall. Fame legs aren't enough, especially a standard metal "hollywood" type frame.
