Today’s porch guest(s)
I love the concentrated wildlife display on the corner of my little deck here in the corner of my little town.
This cutie was having breakfast. He was particularly interested in the suet cakes.
The Fox Squirrel is climbing up the back of the corner post to join him.
Next there were two bluejays wrecking havoc on the black oil sunflower seed and the feral cats’ food. No photo; they were skittish.
Winds are 31 mph; the windchill is -24°and the normal temp is a springlike 2° The sunlight is very thin and cold.
There are huge “snow devils” going down the street. They’re about 25’ in diameter. The houses across the street are all blurry; the wind is roaring.
Just a typical Friday. “Friday” also means I will get Bella’s nose art cleaned off the windows! That will last about 20 minutes!
I just heard the first crows of “spring!” I hope to entice them to nest in one the neighbor’s trees again. They help clear out the hawks and keep the Purple Martins safer.
A couple of yesterday’s “dear” visitors.
Last year I had a delightful raccoon that was very gentle around the cats. They took turns at the food and water bowls. The cats fought aming themselves at times, but they left the coon alone and he ignored them.
I love all critters, great and small.

Comments (17)No worries Kara, it happens to the best of us :) I trust your memory so when you said "You asked about when I am covering my plants" I thought I must have asked some time ago, just don't remember it :) Anyhow since we are talking about lithops, I dared starting from seeds recently. I had 5 out of 10 seeds that germinated and only two are still alive 4 months later. They are surviving it seems, although I am not helping them... Knowing my chance of success was slim, I also bought a couple lithops at about the same time as a backup. It looks like they are splitting, starting to grow new leaves?? Comments (18)With the first photo, I like the size of this porch. With the second photo, I like the materials and style but would prefer for the sides to be closed off for safety purposes. With the last photo, I like style. But I suppose the original point was I wanted an access point from the driveway for inclement weather. As well as a new pathway to the front door. Comments (5)Its a very handsome house. Re curb appeal, what strikes me is the vast amt of pavement, looks kinda like commercial space... but that just may be the angle of the camera. Ths is more of a question. How much space do you need really in that section of driveway which goes past your front entry. Can you bump out flower beds (currently full of gravel - good choice, given that you cant really grow anything in that narrow space) . And the entry walkway - even two or three feet would help, but for a decently sized border youd want at least 5-6 feet width to allow lush, generous growth of .... maybe decorative fountain grass interspersed with perennials / spring bulbs, would be simple, not too high, easy. I dunno, its a thought! I like the placement of the trees in front, but you may want to limb up (remove the lower branches) from the two in the center to maintain a little more visibility to the street. Comments (34)Tissue. Always put a box of tissue on the nightstand because when I get there, I may go through a full box. So a small trash can nearby would be of great help. :) A small writing pad and pen always comes in handy. If the room is large enough I'd definitely add some decor and still leave room for their things. Our friends and family don't need their own closet either unless there's an event to go to. When my dad would spend the night with us I always put a couple of books I knew he'd like on the nightstand. Always a 3way lamp. Enough things to make it homey. Go easy on layering the bed, even in winter. Drape an extra coverlet or blanket at the end of the bed or on a chair. No stacks of throw pillows! From experience of having to deal with them as a guest, they are a PITA. At least two bed pillows for each person. I've never hosted anyone other than a couple of out of town friends and family, and I'd never add bottled water. Too formal. Might as well lay a mint on the pillow. Make them feel at home, tell them they can have anything in the kitchen they want if they get up during the night. Nice disposable drinking glasses in the bathroom are good. If I had the room, the two pictures below are my style and the rooms are so inviting. Night stands are too small. Lamps and nightstands are too small, but the layout is perfect.
