Garage Doors - body color or dark?

Hi all. I’m getting my home (1st) pic painted, it hasn’t been painted since it was built 19 years ago and sorely needs it. I’m painting it Dover White/Tony Taupe, see 2nd pic for reference. Both pics are the same model house. I hear conflicting advice on what to do. The dark color seems like the new thing to do here in Florida, so the house is seen as “newer”. The hot sun will be beating on my southern facing garage so I heard it may fade faster? I’m using Emerald all around though. Opinions?

Are you garage doors wood or metal. If they are wood I might suggest they be stripped if currently painted and finished with a clear polyurethane that will allow the wood and wood grain to show thru. If they are metal would suggest painting a brown that would approximate wood. The dark garage doors in your second photo just appear too dark. Good luck!

They are metal :) unfortunately the HOA is only allowing body color, trim color, or SW Sealskin

Will you be painting the trim around the windows also? Right now the trim is white and your garage door is white. I think they should match. You could paint trim/garage door beige like the little molding below the stone part of your house. That qould look good, I think. Your front door could be any color...mine is red and I love it.

Try it with the same trim color, but if it pops out too much, go back and do the gray that's on the doors. I'm thinking the trim color will defeat the purpose of blending in the garage doors and side doors. You don't want to call attention to the garage doors, right? Even having gray or black french doors with white trim would have the effect of outlining the doors and making them stand out rather than recede. JMO

Yes, replacing all windows but not the arched window. So you think it would be okay to do dark framed windows on the front of the house and white on the back?

Thank you krattigernm! Your input on the garage door confirms the choice we made to paint it and the trim around it the same color as the house. Could you weigh in on this alternate door color? it's a little lighter/brighter than the copper mountain, which feels too dark once we put a sample up. The front of the house is in the shade all the time pretty much, which makes a difference I think. I would paint the base color including garage doors the Toney Taupe and all the trim Dover White if that were my only options. Always lighter Trim.

HOA is only allowing body color, trim color, or SW Sealskin

That has the potential to be a MAJOR problem.

Most all garage door/entry door manufacturers have color specifications that specify a paint color with an LRV of around 55 or 60 or higher. If you paint the door a color with a lower LRV, like Sealskin LRV 6, the warranty is voided.

I've seen a lot of HOA color restrictions, this is one of the more unique and unwise ones I've seen.
