Venturing into Yeast Doughs
Comments (36)I still have fingernails! It didn't really start rising until after 2 hours! I put a pan of hot water in the oven with it, and that helped. I wonder if buttermilk isn't a great liquid for dissolving yeast. The buttermilk was almost as thick as yogurt. I used half for the crumb cake and tried to shape the other half into balls for buns, but I could see it was too wet and would just meld together. So I put the other half in another pan and sprinkled coconut on top. I'm going to try to recreate what we called coconut buns growing up. They are glazed after baking. I'm letting them rise overnight in the fridge. I think they'll be all right. I just hope they taste good! I'd hate to waste all that butter, sugar, etc. But nothing ventured, nothing gained. If it's anything to be proud of, I'll take photos. ;)...See MoreMy first real gardening venture this year
Comments (9)Annette , sounds like you had a lovely time preparing for spring ! Also so crazy that you and I are in the same zone ( actually you are one step ahead! ) and yet we are so far apart . Boggles the mind ! Do you have the lath house covered in clematis ? I hope I am recalling correctly . Do you have any pictures of it to share ? We are in for at least a week of brutal cold here in nashville . I visited a local nursery looking for some seeds. I came home with a cute weathered look bird chime type thing ... No seeds. It sure felt good to pretend like spring was almost here ! I also ordered a handful of roses . (Shhhh don't tell dh!)...See MoreI have Sciatica and need other's stories
Comments (46)Phoggie Yes, I have had MRIs of back and hips thru and down leg. I have two dud hips too which came from something else. The report is specific. But, my intern referred me to an Ortho doctor who didn't explain much and put me into PT telling me there was hope to get rid of sciatica. He didn't ask me to come back. I have 4 levels of femoral stenosis and herniated discs and massive arthritis. I need my very nice intern to talk to me after 2 more rounds of PT which is not much different that my at home stuff. Here is the site for femoral stenosis. https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=femoral+stenosis I believe I have one nerve within that stenosis that needs attention. Want to know what area it affects. You spoke of not wanting surgery but you sure ended up with a lot misery to get to your recovery from all that surgery. What an awful ordeal and I will not forget your pain. It is worth repeating te story My dad was another story. Sporty Jack, as I called him, began a new life after my mother died. He had voluntary hip and knee replacements in his late 70s so he could run.. It was Youth Part II for him. He lived near my brother and managed to get it done without him knowing for a year. He knew which kid to tell as my brother would have stopped him and was furious when he found out. I thought it was horrible how he yelled at my dad. It was none of his business. Sporty Jack did well from it but there is always something. Now, my brother is daddy's age then and has forgotten most likely how he treated his father. I won't be volunteering for a darn thing and that's why I am here. I will go loaded with smart questions and more knowledge. I hope his conversation helps others too. Phoggie and others. What meds are you on for arthritis? Is it odd that besides Rob333 there are only women posting on here. More women than men at the KT...See MoreViking 42 inch side-by-side?
Comments (4)The house we purchased has a 42" Viking Side by side. I can't compare it to something newer by Viking as this fridge is 16 yrs old I think. Just recently everything was redone (everything that has anything to do with cooling) Technically, it is like new. I am not impressed with the Viking side by side when I compare it to our SZ 42" of the same vintage. It cools but the temperature fluctuates constantly. there are only numbers to set the temperature and for whatever reason you can't nail it so you're always fiddling, it's too cold or it's too hot. The interior layout is not very good and in my opinion doesn't hold nearly the amount of fresh/frozen food as the SZ. When we remodel, it will go into the garage as overflow fridge/freezer. Personally I would not buy one. Inga...See MoreJilly
