Hello, we recently had old counterop replaced with granite. when old tile was demod, some cracks and broken pieces as well as nails were left over. the old tile wrapped around the wall but the new counter is flat with a small lip overhang so now gap is exposed. im thinking of filling it with drywall mud to ”extend” he wall upwards to meet the counter. and treating it like an inner corner that meets the ceiling minus taping. the nails leftover not sure why they are there perhaps there was a bracket or corner bead under the old tile…Picture will be linked to get better visual but. here is my plan to tackle this:

scrape of old debris and any drywall that comes apart easily, pull out nails, fill and spread areas with compound or fill gaps with wood filller to create backing to then apply mud over, then texture once its even and smoothed out, prime for paint.

does this seem like sound method to approach this issue?

Also would anyone recommed using paper tape at all to help with bonding? Any tips and insights from expereienced drywall folks would br great as im complete novice to this type of repair. Thanks for any info and time

edit: clearer pictures, gaps ranges up to about 3/8 an inch
