I bought stools from allbarstools.com via recommendation from several GW users. They are 15" sq. (I needed that size) Black vinyl (I have kids too) and black steel ( i think it's steel) frame.. But. i remember there being a ton of different options for frame and seat. They are the TEMPO HERMOSA stools. I have to tell you they are a little pricey ($137 each i think), but so comfortable and look really nice! I don't remember if they had red in vinyl but from what i was told by other GW'ers and their on-line reviews, these stools are made for restaurants and such so they are very durable (kid friendly in my opinion!!!) I would love to see how it turned out. We're doing a very similar renovation. So far our walls are alabaster and we've only purchased lower cabinets. I painted them Mindful Gray (BM). We just purchased our counter tops yesterday and they are unfinished butcher block. So now I'm panicking on what stain to use on them (our floors are Allen + Roth Russet Oak Laminate). I don't want the floors & counter tops to be too matchy and I'm considering just oiling them without staining. So many decisions!

Please post a picture when you're done. All the best at this stressful time. I like what you have done so far. I don't see why painting quartz is any different than painting tile. Shiny things can be painted, sometimes even without roughing them up. The very worst that could happen is that in a few years you need to replace it. Or repaint it. Doesn't seem like such a high risk to me. In the meantime, you have something that you like the look of.

I think that tall back windsor style chairs can have a lot of look around a 48" table and will make it feel too cramped. Look at pics of them with 4 around a table and see what the size room looks like. I too think the chandelier is a bit too big but it is ok because the arms are slender. I think if you pair it with all the spindles in a windsor chair, that area is going to start looking like a bar code! Also, given that your husband is a large man, I would absolutely not get a cheap chair you have to assemble. Go to a store where you can sit on them and feel what they are like for both comfort and quality. And pay attention to the width of the seat no matter what chair you get.
