Shaw sink/Countertop Quandary. Please help asap!
Comments (7)Thank you all for your input. The installer came back out and showed me were the imperfection is with the sink. The side were it looks crooked, or uneven, is almost concave in the center of the side of the sink, so it's almost impossible to cut a piece so that it looks straight. He said that if he cut it to size, then the center of that piece would be a lot smaller in width than the rest of it, and it will be even more obvious of a flaw if it is changed. He did give me the option to re-install a new piece, but now I think it will look even more obvious if it's changed. It never even crossed my mind that this would even be a problem. All of the kinks in the road that have popped up are driving me slightly bonkers. :) So, now it seems as if I have to live with a crooked looking piece of countertop, or a crooked looking piece of countertop. In other words, it's a win-win situation....See MoreNeed help with countertop recommendation please!
Comments (6)Thanks for the confirmation of the bullet-proofness of AB. You make a couple great points about putting clean clothes down on a surface that I may not realize is dirty and about the edges. Hadn't thought of either of those things. Ideally, I am hoping to find a slab remnant as you mentioned. I'd be tickled if I could find one for the sink area as well. The long narrow part would be a slam dunk to do as tile. As far as a hot iron on corian, I don't really know! I figure I'd be ironing on a double layer of towel (I'm SOOO not a 50s woman!) so it would be somewhat insulated. From what I understand the biggest heat issue with corian is extended heat exposure (like a crockpot sitting for hours) and over a seam that would melt. Since I'm shooting for a rem, there wouldn't be seams. Yep, I knew about the non oiling of soapstone. I fell in love with the material during one of my kitchen planning phases (you don't want to know!). I still have a scrap of cobra sitting around somewhere. I just happen to be one who prefers the oiled look. Certainly would be impervious to the heat of an iron though....See MoreNeolith Countertops (Can someone please respond ASAP)
Comments (21)Dee, quartz is not heat proof, but the fact is that if you've got to get something off the range or out of the oven right away, you can put it down on a quartz countertop without harming the top, as long as you pick it right back up and put a trivet under it. Same with granite. Longer exposure to heat begins to crystallize the resins in the top. For some reason, people always want to know if you can put a hot pot on it, or if you can cut on it. (You can, but it will dull your knives, so why would you want to?)...See MoreUgly, mismatched kitchen - facelift on a very tight budget
Comments (81)Hi Alexandra, keeping in and you temporary liw budget and using the cabinets and appliance for the color scheme I put tower some options in an ugly unmatched kitchen idea book but here are some of my picks from it below. in addition I would spray paint your cabinet hinges a matte black and for your door (assuming pantry by the fridge either matte black for it and the trim or using white distressing wax to give it more character or stain it with weather wash stain. hope this helps the wallpaper for above the cabinets but if you don't like that then a nice creamy white paint would be nice....See MoreAlexandra Fisher
