OK, low hanging fruit. Where's the waterproofing?

Not sure what kind of direction you'd like any advice to head towards. So from what I see, my first question is, is this a drop-in tub sitting in a dual-head wet shower? Then there are sconces above the jetted tub, inside this wet shower? Is the floor of the shower really just a layer of 1/2" Durock over the 2x4 platform, or is that temporary? And seeing how even Texas got manhandled by freezing, are you south of TX with the CPVC pipes?

Yes, it’s a drop-tub tub sitting in a dual-head shower. Our bathroom is incredibly narrow and we really wanted to incorporate a small jacuzzi drop in tub. The floor of the shower has a liner covered with cement. We are located in Florida.

The drop in tub has a wood frame on the longer sides but not on the short sides and it’s not sitting on cement. He leveled it with pieces of wood underneath. Does the jacuzzi drop in tub need to be cemented underneath?

Read the instructions, normally set on a bed of mortar after filled at least 3/4" of the way to set the level properly for flexing.

That’s what I thought and hoped the installer would read and follow directions. Unfortunately, he did not.

Well, hopefully this will be an easy fix while the balance of the bathroom is gutted again.

Ok, picture perspective got me. The 2x4 is the start of the curb (a single 2x4?), and I see the membrane partially lapped over the top. But it looks like I see a grout line on an existing tile floor, was all this installed over the existing tile?

Has this been permitted? I can't imagine any inspector would allow sconces in a wet room.

Since you have no waterproofing, picture water soaking through the grout joints, when it is sitting in each of the niches, sitting on the tub platform, getting between the tub and walls, flowing into the necessary tub motor panel, tub flexing and getting under the lip . . .

Sorry, my opinion is I cannot see a way how this is salvageable, any of it, including the design concept.

I don't know about setting tubs but do know enough that you need to have waterproofing behind the tiles. Tile and grout do not make a shower waterproofed. What you have is a complete do over with someone who knows what they're doing.

You don't have any red/purple stuff on the walls. The waterproofing stuff that is supposed to go over the cement board. Then the tile gets set once the tub and surround area is waterproofed. The joints on the board aren't taped or filled either. That should have been done before the waterproofing stuff went up. And all of the board and filling and waterproofing should have been done before tile started going in.

You got plain untaped or filled cement board, non-waterproofed, and partial tiling already done. It's a mess sorry to say. And what's going on with the partial ceiling there?

Yup! I agree with all of you. Sloppy install at its best. Hired a new GC and the tiles will be removed and we’re starting from square 1 again.
