Comments (13)Wow, what a LOT of aphids! I sure didn't see them as part of the green stuff in the first two photos. I'd say they are probably little green women, though....See MoreWhat’s wrong with my ficus?
Comments (3)How many times have you repotted your Ficus microcarpa over the course of 4 years? If none, your plant is reacting as it would be expected to. The fact you're guessing at a nutrient deficiency leads me to think you haven't been fertilizing, either. Plants are programmed to tolerate a fairly narrow range of conditions. Ignoring their needs, for any reason, puts the plant at or beyond the limits they are genetically programmed to tolerate, and that's not a sustainable arrangement. In all honesty, the plant is circling the drain, so even though now is not a good time to repot, you should buck the growth cycle and do it anyway. Repotting includes bare-rooting, root-pruning, and a change of soil; potting up won't turn the tide. It's possible a lack of fertility, N in particular, is causing the plant to cannibalize older foliage for the nutrients it contains in order to fuel new branch extension and a leaf here and there. Root congestion is also made manifest in loss of old foliage such that almost all foliage is concentrated at branch apices (ends of branches).I have a LOT of Ficus and the only fertilizer I use is Foliage-Pro 9-3-6. It's a very good product and contains everything your tree needs for healthy, normal growth. BTW - allowing a Ficus (other than F carica, the hardy fig) to be subjected to temps below 55* is another unsustainable arrangement. It essentially puts the plant on battery power (using up what stored energy it has) which will come back to bite you later. Al...See Morewhat’s wrong with my lilac?
Comments (5)usually.. on grafted plants.. heavy growth form the bottom means most above is dead .. in fact.. everything that doesnt have a green bud on it.. is probably dead.. i THINK i see a few.. here are you.. big city name.. if this happens every spring.. i suspect you have sever winter issues.. and part of that would be winter sun on all that stone/brick. causing the tree that is planted to close to the house .. to go in and out of dormancy.. to its detriment.. resulting in what you are dealing with .. either: cut out all the dead. and from below.. and enjoy that POS out your front door.. OR... just get rid of it.. it was an experiment that didnt work out ... personally .. if i had to look at that every time i walked out my front door.. it would have been gone a few years back ... ken ps: are lilac a thing wherever you are.. or are you pushing the envelop there???...See MoreWhat’s wrong with this green ash tree?
Comments (1)aphids produce honeydew.. which with an extreme population ... can rain down ... you solved the aphid issue.. presuming the application was properly applied... severe leaf damage was not going to be 'healed' by killing the bugs.. severely damaged leaves fall off.. this may never happen again.. or maybe in 10 year cycle... i doubt you will notice next year.. since you already solved the problem.. there is nothing more to do... no need to double up the cure... in theory.. there is nothing left to cure... ken...See Morethinkdesignlive
