We've been getting snow and some days mixed with ice. People were out snow-blowing yesterday, my landlord had done ours early in the wee hours.

The plow went by and of course brought all the ice and snow into the driveway and at the end of the sidewalk (I live on a corner lot).

I was out with my shovel breaking up the debris and moving it out of the way.

Out of the blue a young man came over and asked if I wanted some help. The bldg across the street were getting their lot cleared so they were parking their cars on the street. This is the bldg that my friend Cheryl manages. (I often help her shovel her sidewalks when she's out).

So yes, I jumped on his offer, got another shovel and the two of us went to work. He had it cleared in no time.

I went to the end of the sidewalk to start there, and Cheryl was done hers so she came over. A short time later another one of her tenants came with a shovel and he cleared it.

Well done guys! Sometimes I'll be out shoveling and the owner of the next bldg will run his blower down his sidewalk and mine. Other times I shovel my sidewalk and continue and do his.

I just love my neighbourhood.

Wow. I hear and read these stories and I cringe as the quality builders unfortunately get roped into the same category as this PB. One bad apple..... Anyway, the shell should be soaked continuously with water for about 5 days after the shot. In hot conditions is must be kept on top of. A sprinkler or a soaker hose works well. The water aids with the curing process and prevents checks and shrinkage cracks from occurring. All concrete fully cures in 28 days. 60% curing occurs within 72 hours. I would wait at least a week before tiling. I'm not sure about the spa squaring issue-perhaps the PB's spa forms were not square and the gunite foreman would not square it as some piping and rebar issues prevented that? Plus the time to correct the PB's forms. There must be a backline story to that. My gunite sub, as do we, expects our forms to be square and level upon the day of the shot. Some minor adjustments are generally made on site but they are within reason. It's all about the prep work. A spa form is critical as the jet placements are crucial for location as are the additional pipes required. Squaring the spa after the fact is a lot of work. This makes no sense to me. A house foundation is not squared after the fact. An 1.5" pipe for suction is totally inadequate. In fact, we start our residential suction lines at 2.5" and go up depending on the application and the water supply needed. Code requirements for pool piping on suction pipes are not to exceed a certain foot per second. A high fps increases suction and does not allow for a proper volume of water delivery to a pump. A missing drain cover on a system can prove dangerous with a high fps. As far as color choices for your tile and plaster, this is entirely up to you. I can only suggest you look at friends or neighbors pools, photos, etc.. to get and idea for the final finish. Sunny and shady locations have an impact on color results on both tile and plaster. It can favorable in both conditions.

Sounds like a wonderful day. I'm sure the hugging felt odd, but nice. Recently I have been going to a new yoga class with a new instructor. During some moves and at the end she will come and adjust us where she puts pressure on our shoulders, rubs our temples and pulls on our feet. It was so odd the first time to have someone touching me, but it felt amazing and I was so grateful for that touch.

Glad it went well. If she hasn't already when you go over, move stuff that she needs down to counter level to avoid a lot of reaching up/down. That helped me a lot after my Bilateral Mastectomy. Also, alcohol wipes helped for milking the drain tubes. I bought the small ones that you use for cleaning the skin for a shot. You hold the tube w/ one hand to keep it from pulling the incision and wrap the wipe around the tube and pull down w/ thumb and index finger of the other hand. It hurts like heck if the tube is pulling at the incision!! I also suggest her checking her temp at least twice a day to catch any possible infection early. I ended up in the hospital for almost a week w/ cellulitis and then was on IV abx for a month once I was released.

A snow plow hit my mailbox sometime last night. I didn't notice until I opened the front blinds this morning. ugh. The post is leaning, but not down- yet. Plus snow is covering the house number on the box, so I'll need to venture out there soon to remove all of that. And there's two foot of snow in front so the truck may not deliver my mail until that's cleared away.

Last year when we had 2 snows and an ice storm in one week, my neighbor came and shoveled the ice off my steps. We were without power and my husband was on oxygen....a high amount...and our generator quit. He had gone thru all of his oxygen bottles.... something like 21 of them. The power did come back on but the two ranchers that live on my road brought their huge oxygen bottles that they use for welding to have on hand in case it went out again. It was the daughter of one of them that shoveled my steps.

I went out to break the ice on a water trough, and I slipped down and fell in up to my shoulders. I had slipped down on the ice too. I am not a fan of cold weather. Fortunately this current cold spell hasn't been that bad.

That really is heartening, Jasdip!! Marilyn, that is terrifying to hear.

Schoolhouse, sounds like you got a lot more snow than I did. Ours was mostly sleet but now it looks like shoveling will be out of the question. It's all ice. :(

Jasdip I am very happy for you that you found the right neighbourhood!

Our elderly neighbor gets that kind of help from the youngsters around here. He is in his 80s and is becoming more frail but still taking care of his house and living on his own. He just needs an extra pair of hands in this situation.

What about getting yourself some ice cleats for that kind of weather. Particularly since you have to go out and tend to your menagerie. I use them all the time for walking my dogs. They work quite well. I put them on a pair of boots at the beginning of the season and use those boots only so I don't have to take the cleats on and off. I wear a pair of soft no slip over shoes when I need to go inside for a minute. As you can tell I tried to avoid taking them on and off.

Schoolhouse ugh! That is definitely a mixed blessing having the snow plows come through to clear your roads is great. Having them plow your mailbox not so great...

We had our snow but it did not stick and it turned into rain pretty quickly. We sometimes get a good snowfall in February.

I am 68, and I do so much yard work myself in the spring and summer, that no one helps with snow in the winter. I guess they think I am able myself. But shoveling snow is much harder than using a wheelbarrow, etc. to do yard work. I don't shovel snow, I just drive thru it! And I am the next to oldest on our block. PS I am a nice person and give them plants etc. in the spring. ; )
