which dimmer are you using?

I just went through this with the cathedral ceiling on my screened porch. Do you have the gimbal lights now that can be adjusted to face down in an angled ceiling? Is it currently enough light? Is your angled ceiling higher than normal? Changing to 4 inch might require more lights which will need more wiring. I would say if it ain't broke don't mess with it. There are gimbal sylvania LED inserts for about $40 each online that can go into your existing recessed containers. The LED's tend to be brighter than the corresponding wattage on CFL's or incandescents so you might want to add a dimmer. http://www.amazon.com/Sylvania-72369-Recessed-Downlight-35-Degree/dp/B00FMSUJL0 Since my screened porch is a new build I decided to surface mount the sylvania 70732 disc lights (LED ) from Lowe's on the angled ceiling, no gimbal. They look like recessed lights but fit into regular junction boxes (as well as into recessed receptacles) and have a wider beam that allows good coverage even though they will be set on an angle. I actually drew in all the angles of coverage to determine where to set the j-boxes and to be sure that the light beams would not cause a strobe effect with the ceiling fan on. Lighting is one of this week's rotating renovation obsessions, so I understand your dilemma. I made an appointment with a lighting designer at a good sized local lighting store last week ($75 for an hour, which I think was money well spent), so that might be an option for you if you live in a place where that's available, as I found it really helpful. Soft, incandescent-like dimming is a goal for me too, and I know that most LEDs just get dimmer rather than also getting warmer like good old "real" bulbs. Satco, however, makes warm dimming bulbs, and Juno has warm dimming housings. I haven't actually seen either of them, so I can't comment on how they look, and there may be others out there too, but that's an option you might want to throw into the mix (even though we're supposed to be clarifying things, not making them more complicated!) Let us know what you decide and how you like it. I keep wishing there were ONE easy area, but I haven't found it so far.

Hi Jim, thanks for taking the time to respond. I am a newby about current lighting options and have already spent far too much time ordering and returning lights. Yes, I currently have 4" cans with LED inserts. I looked at the Soraa lights and while they look great they do not offer a bulb that will work with my current Halo cans. Then cans that I have are dedicated LED with the orange quick connector that plugs directly into the light module. Regular screw type base bulbs or G10 style will not work. That's why I was hoping the Elco light would work as it has the same connector, although it only comes in 3000K. Halo does have some new options that look nice but they run about $90.00 per light and I have 32 to change out. The 3000K might be OK for kitchen and bath but I might need something warmer in the bedrooms .
