Builder grade home? (? re hpj thread)
Comments (31)Perfectly said Livewire. In NJ custom homes come at a very large premium. Not only in cost but taxes since NJ has the highest property taxes in the nation. We live in a cookie cutter 2300 sq. ft. TH that we bought new 4 yrs old. Let's talk about the builder options and costs. We were sent to a design studio to pick our options. They were overpriced junk. The builder wanted $12,000 for hardwoods just on the first floor. The kitchen cab upgrades were $2500 and $4500 and not worth it. The master bath upgrade (tile) started at $2500. This one we could not figure out. There is not enough tile nor was the guality good enough to justify the cost. Recessed ceiling lights were $200 ea. We put in our own upgrades and started after settlement with very high quality kitchen cabs, my great Franke Orka sink and faucet, and HW throughout most of the house which includes most of the second floor and closets and upgraded much more with better quality and less money than the builders stuff would have cost. Our cookie cutter has the same floor plans but our home is our own....See MoreJeopardy, college edition
Comments (22)No, Jannie, you weren't the spoiler. You only said, "Whoo Hooo!" I would have had to scroll back up to see who you had said (earlier) that you wanted to win. Rhizo -- Yeah, we watch Jeopardy for the questions, but Hubs and I know at least 80% to 90% of the correct answers, and there is always at least one question that none of the contestants get right but I get right, and another that none of the contestants get right but Hubs gets right. Still, it's fun to watch. BUT, when it's a tournament, especially a multi-day final, as this was, we don't want to know the winner in advance....See MorePlease link to thread re: getting rid of this new Kitchen forum layout
Comments (13)My iPad suddenly switched yesterday to the new format for no discernible reason. Cannot switch it back. I've tried everything. I just wrote an email to Houzz about it. I asked how I could switch my view back to old format. I also mentioned how there are hundreds of additional posts on the new "Kitchens Discussions" that are from other forums and I don't want to wade through them, and also mentioned the busy and annoying layout. I received this response: "We welcome and appreciate your feedback and will pass it along to the corresponding teams. Thank you"...See MoreCabinet Delivery is 9 weeks past estimate - Christmas is in jeopardy
Comments (26)I’m sorry to hear your cabinets are delayed. In my area, it is what it is. Kitchen cabinet manufacturers and other small businesses are struggling to catch up from the mandatory lockdown/shut down and operating with a reduced work force. I wouldn’t be surprised if your cabinet maker refunded your deposit if you wanted to cancel the order. Please think through your alternatives before contacting them. Is it possible to find another cabinet maker to take your order and for the same price? Lumber pricees have gone up in my area and it’s more expensive than it was 3-6 months ago. Is it possible to select your counters now and schedule your templating and installation date the week before Dec? I renovated my parents’ kitchen while they were on vacation for a week; the KD/Contractor were aware of my timelines when I placed my order. My counters was templated the same evening my cabinets were installed, the counters and sink were installed a couple days later, and the blacksplash installed the next day. The KD/contractor schedule all of their trades to meet my deadline....See Moreeld6161
