Can a positive reveal make any undermount sink a workstation sink?

I just ordered my new cabinets for kitchen remodel and am now looking at sinks. I love the idea of a workstation sink, but don't like the fact they have a smaller width due to the ledge. Is it possible to use any regular undermount sink and have a larger positive reveal to make it a workstation? Any pros or cons to this?

This is a question for Joseph but I wiil say my piece for sure. IMO workstation sinks are not ideal the parts are too small and always affect how the rest of the sink functions , the grid on the bottom is just one more thing to clean and they get gross quickly . Get a nice large stainless undermount and but a cutting board a proper size and a stariner you store in a drawer or cabinet save a ton of monet and have much better function. BTW there is a reason enammelled cast iron went out of favor the first time you drop a heavy pot in it will be the first time you have an ugly chip, IMO a good quality stinless one bowl sink will last forever .

thanks for everyone's input. buehl, thank you for that link! So much info there! I'm going next week to pick out my slabs so it comes at a great time. I'm going to print off a good portion of that thread to take with me. One question I didn't see answered is about daily cleaning. I'm getting black pearl. Right now I have laminate that my husband says I am OCD about cleaning. He's probably right but, I use soapy water and dry it off. Is it okay to wash it with soapy water? Is cleaning it multiple times a day okay, or will I have to try to limit myself a little? The main reason I am cleaning my counter so much now is just because of finger & palm prints from husband.

A negative reveal might be better for hiding imperfections in a handmade sink, like the Shaw's farm sink. If your top lip is especially wavy, or slanted (as mine is), then a negative reveal will hide that better. (But lots of people have Shaw's with postivie reveals. Mine is too wonky.) Regarding negative vs zero reveal, with a zero reveal, one will see the caulk, right? So that may or may not be an issue for someone. I prefer not to see the caulk, so I prefer even a tiny negative reveal (like 1/16th-1/8th). Regarding the question about why an undermount sink has to sit lower than the counter. The easiest answer is because that is the definition of "undermount." :-) There is also an "upmount" style where it sits above the counter. And there is a "flushmount" where the counter and sink are on the same level. But some of these styles can probably only be done with a farm style sink that sits on a base, and needs no support from above. Francy

They're using Black Mamba or similar. I've never used it because I don't know how thin the bead can be, whether or not it will look good with a slight positive sink reveal, and reverseability. I finally had a warranty call on a composite sink today. We released the straps, dropped the sink, cleaned the silicone off the flange and stone bottom, replaced the sink, and were done in several hours, plumbing included. I don't know if that would happen with a polymer sealant sink. Epoxied sinks can be a disaster.
