How much reveal is too much for undermount lavatory?
Comments (7)wi-sailorgirl: I will post some pictures of the countertops as soon as I can - and, just to make you jealous, my island countertop in the kitchen is also quartzite. (And it's huge - 13 feet wide by 4 feet deep!) I may call the countertop guy (we have more work to do with them that is not quoted yet - they may want to help me to keep the rest of the work). I have four Kathryn sinks that are the smaller sinks, and their reveals are 1/16th of an inch. The two in the master are the larger Kathyrn sinks and they have the big overhang. Since I am not asking for a new slab, they might be willing to take them back and cut the hole a little bigger. Should have pix tomorrow....See MorePicture of Ticor SS508 Undermount Sink in Soapstone Counter
Comments (8)Josh has been gone the last two days working on 2 installs. I asked him about this and he said that the fabricator should have created a jig with enough pitch to it like he had mentioned earlier and then used that to cut the runnels. It's completely doable to go back and re-cut the runnels IF you have enough space on your countertop to hold the jig since it needs to be clamped down and it can be on the large side. My parents wanted to add runnels 6 months after we installed their kitchen but they had strange angles around their sink. We couldn't fit the jig in tight enough to get the runnels straight. I would push to see if he can fix them.. he charged a lot of money for them.. and they should be done right and be able to channel the water properly. Below is a picture of runnels that show a pretty decent pitch. Hope this helps...See MoreUndermount sink reveal
Comments (6)thanks for everyone's input. buehl, thank you for that link! So much info there! I'm going next week to pick out my slabs so it comes at a great time. I'm going to print off a good portion of that thread to take with me. One question I didn't see answered is about daily cleaning. I'm getting black pearl. Right now I have laminate that my husband says I am OCD about cleaning. He's probably right but, I use soapy water and dry it off. Is it okay to wash it with soapy water? Is cleaning it multiple times a day okay, or will I have to try to limit myself a little? The main reason I am cleaning my counter so much now is just because of finger & palm prints from husband....See Moreundermount sink, positive reveal - urgent question!
Comments (18)I think this depends on the sink, too. Ours has installation instructions that specify a negative reveal. Out of curiosity, I pulled the specs for the stainless version of the same sink (ours is fireclay, both standard undermount) and in stainless they specify a positive reveal. They're literally the same size sink, though the stainless has accessories that need the lip. Not sure why the fireclay has a negative reveal specified. We have a stainless sink w/ positive reveal now, and it does get gunky, for whatever that's worth. I don't know that it would be much better with zero or negative reveal, though......See Morebiner
