Adding more grout?? (initial coat low)

Hi folks.

My newly remodeled MBA is again under surgery for a leaky toilet due to faulty install (which the GC acknowledged, is ticked off about, and is striving to make right). To make the fix, we pulled the toilet, a few 12x24” tiles, and the subfloor surrounding the waste pipe…and then put humpty dumpty back together.

Today, the tile guys re-laid the three tiles and grouted (using excess tile and grout that was still in my garage). However, they caught me by surprise as they were leaving and said they would have to come back another day for a second coat of grout because the bags in my garage apparently had less than they originally thought and didn’t completely cover to expected/normal grout level. I was…at a loss for words.

Can a second coat of grout be applied on top of existing grout…with a good outcome (especially if part of the tiles in question will have a toilet installed on top)? Or do I need to firmly request the ”low” coat is removed and replaced with a single normal coat?

Thanks.
