Add what to my grout to make it stay clean??
Comments (11)Well, like I said, THANK YOU Bill and Mongo! Hmmmm, yeah, I certainly get your point, Bill. Honestly, I'm copying Oakleyok's floor from the home decorating forum...she knows this.....I've been stalking her floor for awhile. Below you can see her floor and it has a "white" looking grout. I like the way it looks but I am concerned about it getting dirty. What do you think? Mongo, I will check out the Copper Beech grout color. As far as the grout colorant, been there done that and don't want to do it again. I was the one who had the "speckled pup" Prism grout in my bath reno. We ended having to do the colorant on that grout as it never cleared up. Customs paid for it but it was alot of work. It's a moot point now, but was that okay to do over the Kerdi we used?? The colorant was made by Customs and I sure hope it was the kind that breathes? I remember he said it was a colorant and sealer in one. Thanks again for your thoughts guys! pup Here is a link that might be useful: Checkerboard floor...See MoreCream colored grout turned dark when cleaned; staying dark
Comments (4)Update: It turns out that the dark grout was not because of the cleaner used but because the shower pan was leaking. My grout turned dark because of the moisture wicking out through the subfloor. It was a coincidence this all happened at once (cleaning the floor and me noticing the darker grout). Our GC is scheduled to re-build the shower pan and re-grout the darkened areas....See MoreEpoxy Grout over top of Urethane Grout:
Comments (19)Ultimately it's your kitchen so if you like the tile, and your design, that's great for you. I live in a neighborhood where almost every house had tiled kitchen counters put in by the developers; as people can afford it or the houses change hands, they are ripping them out and putting in granite or marble or silestone or whatever - because once things leak off your cutting board (meat juice, raw chicken) or you try to roll out something (pizza, pie, biscuits) you are faced with the fact that the grout (even sealed or epoxy) is difficult to clean. So in my opinion, it is not the most convenient of surfaces. Sounds like you already have your fix - tear out current urethane and install epoxy. Sincerely wishing you good luck that it will work for you....See MoreDoes having bathroom tile & grout professionally cleaned really work?
Comments (8)Yes, it does help dramatically in situations I have seen. The tile pros have very large rotary machines, like carpet cleaning machines, but specialized for tile. Some have a special machine with a narrow brush that goes back and forth on just the grout, like a gigantic mechanical toothbrush. The chemicals, detergents, and hot dirty water are sucked up by the machines, followed by rinsing thoroughly. They can seal the tile and grout again, I highly recommend it for easier cleaning afterward. A large kitchen and three bathrooms cost a few hundred dollars in a low cost of living area. It took all day. BTW, there are special hand-held electric scrubbers they use for wall and shower tile....See Morepaltmaie
