30" Electric Wall Oven Help

I am building a home and need to decide on appliances soon. I thought it would be easy to decide on a wall oven, but not so. If you have purchased a 30" electric wall oven in the past two years, what brand did you buy and how is your satisfaction? FYI, I am not interested in a Wolfe brand. Personally, I would prefer to not have one with the connectivity options because those are things I figure will be trouble down the road, but unfortunately many now have this technology. I do like convection and definitely want self-clean. Also, does it heat up quickly and easily adjust to temperature changes?

I have a 2003 GE Profile range (not wall oven). Just happens that I checked the temperature with an oven thermometer a recently when baking a frozen pizza on convection mode. It was spot-on, although I don't know if the reference thermometer is accurate. Packaged brownie mix a couple days ago came out perfect (conventional bake mode).

Ovens with a hidden bake element (under the oven floor) tends to take a bit longer to preheat than units in the past with exposed elements. It's a good idea with any oven to wait 10+ mins past the preheat "ready" signal to insure the cavity temperature is stable for items that are sensitive.

CR has rating of 31 single, electric wall ovens (consumerreports.org/join - $10/month digital). The LG LWS3063ST tested well. The LG LSWS307ST is similar but has different controls and appearance.

Be advised that some self-cleaners nowadays run a steam or "aqua" clean cycle, which is very different and not as effective (bordering on ineffective) from high-heat pyrolytic self-cleaning. Steam cleaning pretty much needs to be run immediately after any baking or broiling that dirties the oven. There's a long discussion on this board about dissatisfaction with steam / aqua cleaning. High-heat self-cleaners are still available. A few models may have both steam and high-heat cleaning. Check the details closely on the models you're considering to confirm the system(s).

We purchased two GE electric ovens in October 2010 and had them installed by GE under the counter. We immediately realized that the options on the control panel cannot be clearly seen due to no back lighting and the fact that black text is used on a dark grey background. I can't tell you how many times I've turned on the 'self clean' option instead of the oven light. Although GE has been very responsive to other issues, I am stuck with ovens that annoy me every time I have to use them. The lighting in our kitchen is very good, but it's no match for the poorly designed display. GE will only say that it is functioning as designed. Perhaps their chairman will feel differently; he's my next stop. Just wanted folks out there to be aware if you're shopping for under-counter ovens, that the poor design may not be apparent in the store as they typically have bright lighting and are displayed as a wall installation, bringing the panel up to eye level where it is more easily viewed. Unless something changes, I'm stuck with these units and will curse every time I have to use them. Buyer beware.

Do a search on here on GW for "oven loud" or similar. We never thought that ovens could be noisy, because the cooling fan feature for the electronics is new since we last had a new electric oven. Then, go to the store at a quiet time of day (opening or closing) and ask them to turn one on, not in demo mode, but in cooking mode, so you can hear it. Keep in mind that the fan will stay on up to 45 minutes after you turn off the oven, until it's sufficiently cool. We are on our 3rd oven in 3 months because of this problem; we should have come to GW first.

A similar situation with no oven Thanksgiving through Christmas with brand new range and oven. This was after 7 months of tinkering and (non)fixing. It was a different brand and eventually they bought them back as they never could get them to work. It was one of the most frustrating things. My sympathies are with you.

I've read thru the comments from the past few years re: noisy fans in ovens. They are all very educational to say the least! So, now it's Jan. 1, 2017 and I am shopping for a new single electric convec. wall oven 27-30". I've read info. from everywhere and feel like I know the choices as if they were cousins [K.A/Jenn A/ Therm/ Whirl/Fridge/, etc. etc.] Have their been any improvements in "loud fan noise" since late 2015? And is there someone out there brave enough to suggest a purchase for me...I can spend in the neighborhood of $1,500 and would to spend less if I can...HELP!!! and much thanks to all who've written comments thus far!!! @dadoes yes, thanks for bringing that up again. I noticed some didn't offer true cleaning and that is something I definitely want.

I got a GE Profile oven last spring & have been delighted with it. It's the nicest baking oven I've owned. It's well insulated & solid, a good value for the price, I think.

@awm03 Two questions on your oven. If you need to change the oven temperature to a higher baking temperature, do you have to let the oven cool down first, or will it adjust to the higher temperature with no issues? Also, I remember someone saying that anytime his wife would open the oven door and then close it while in operation, it would want to shut off and she had to hit the dismiss button, is this true? Thanks.

Change to higher temp: it adjusts with no issues.

Oven turning off after opening the door: I haven't experienced this.

I had a GE Profile oven in my last home that was very reliable and accurate after 13 years of use. In my new build, I selected GE Profile again. I did my research and learned that Profile, Cafe and Monogram lines are essentially the same oven. The Profile style worked best with my other appliances so I selected this line and saved a little $$ at the same time.

GE (regular), Profile, Monogram, and Café are all brands of GE. Pricing increases up the scale for added features, styling, and luxury-marketing appeal. Hotpoint (named for an electric iron in the early 1900s) is also a GE brand since 1920.
