The bed coverings, rug, and walls are not working. The rug seems the simplest change. Fix that before you begin to think about curtains. Start by finding some inspo pics of bedrooms you love. Navy and gray, navy and ivory?? Answer that first.

Would also be helpful if you let daylight in, before you take pictures. Hard to tell exactly what you want or what the existing wall color actually may be.

I agree with Jan Moyer, but I want to offer some alternatives. I see evidence of a small child and pet, so if this is not the best time to get a new rug, pull colors from existing rug onto the bed in the form of a quilt, shams and throw pillows. Add a coordinating throw on the chair for a cozy nap space. Find a new home for the plant. Finally, window coverings. First review how to hang draperies/curtains here in the Houzz resources and measure. A Neutral color, minimal pattern and matching rods on all windows. No drapery cords because of the little person!!!

I think you need to pick a style you have shappy chic (whatever that is ) picture frames, elegant lamps and really sloppy bedding. IMO Start with some new bedding is there a reason for the wall color you have ? As far as window coverings I like drapes in bedrooms but they work in some syles and not in others .

I actually like the rug and would change the bedding to softer colors that play well with it, rather than change the rug. But that's your choice. In any case they do not go well together, so change one or the other. If you choose the navy and white palette, Jan's ideas look great!

I would also change out the honeycomb shades to natural wood shades, which are more organic and textured. If you need blackout, you can add blackout linings to them. Then add curtain panels mounted on rods with rings.

Thoughts:

- It's a big room with plenty of space and lots of windows -- it has the potential to be a really great space.

- The bed dominates the room (not a bad thing), but that solid navy bedspread would be more appropriate in a boy's dorm room. If you get the bed "right", it'll set a better tone for the room. Choose something more luxurious, something grown-up. Consider some print and/or texture in your linens.

- I'd go with printed curtains (choose in coordination with the bedclothes), but -- with so many windows -- keep your print fairly subtle. A person who has 1-2 windows can go bold; bold print on so many curtains will overwhelm. Similarly, I fear that if you go with the dippy-do drapey-fancy curtains above, it'll be "too much"; go with simple-style drapes.

- One more thought about the curtains: your problem's going to come in with the French doors. I have a set of them, and they're a pain to "dress". I think your best option is to use the same curtains that you use on the windows -- but make them wider so you can "pull them back" to open the doors.

- I agree with the above poster who suggests replacing the honeycomb blinds with something wooden and organic. This will bring in some texture, which will be welcome. But this is less important than the other items /could be left for later.

- I like-don't-love the rug. If you choose bedding to tie into the existing rug's colors, I think it'll go from zero to hero. I'd try not to replace the rug -- it should be a supporting player, not a focal point.

- I have that same type of drawer-at-top-open-at-bottom nightstand, and I have a large wicker basket in the open spot. It looks good, and it hides books, etc.

- Similarly, I don't love the distressed windows above bed -- but I think it's because the style (distressed, shabby chic) doesn't match anything else in the room. And I have no ideas about what could replace them.

- The desk across from the bed, again, looks like it belongs in a college dorm. Plain, empty, blah. It looks like you don't use it as a desk. I think it'd be better to replace it with a small dresser or table -- you need something in that position to "anchor" the TV. Even a nicely done shoe cabinet from Ikea could work in that position.

- I love the chaise chair /would love to cuddle up and read away the afternoon. I'd like to see some pillows /a throw -- for function and color. And I'd like to see a stand lamp or a small table for a lamp -- or even a hanging pendant light above. Either have the light match the bedside tables OR go different; don't let them almost match. I'm underwhelmed by your existing bedside lamps.

- A small table for a drink near the chaise would be good.

- Final thought: After you've chosen your curtains and bedding, then I'd say go with a coordinating wall color.

With both doors and windows to deal with, it'd be easier and cheaper to buy a blending light neutral for all of them. ... then dark bedding and rug would be "it" for accessorizing. That's why I posted canvas art for over the bed.

New comforter, shams, pillows etc. Then ditch the gold rug and get a new one. Roman shades with black out lining are really nice. Do not get laying on the ground drapes like everdebz suggested. Really old fashioned and the baby will have a hey day pulling herself up on them. Room looks like nice light and furniture is good. A coordinating pillow on that chair would be nice

Kathy, I don't know about shades that much, and will it work on the doors, how much money...? I like the 'clean' look of shades.

An actual bedspread (solid or lightly patterned) would give the bed a more “finished” appearance. Then match some drapery panels to the bedspread. You can have drapes which draw across the windows or simple side panels to block the light which comes on the sides of the window shades. Privacy is important. I would not want actual window picture frames above my bed because I live in California and earthquakes happen…and could dislodge the frame or the glass. I prefer a single large framed picture above the bed and another one or two above the dressers, all hung on sturdy hangers. They don’t need to be a set, but a similar theme may be desirable…I go for landscapes.
