Comments (29)Is it weird that I'm happy thinking the Hosta took out that Maple? Some more worst. This is Paisley Border. It's a sport of Lakeside Paisley Print and it grows about as well (which is not good at all). After two years it's still not back to original size. This new bed on a slight slope under large Oak canopies hasn't been kind to Hosta. Regal Supreme still hasn't grown after being moved once. Restless Sea got rescued to a pot but its hanging in there. Sapphire Pillows not really increasing in size. Hmm, come to think of it all of these plus Lakeside Prophecy Fulfilled are in that same newish sloping bed. I do give it extra water when its dry, but maybe it needs more. Some plants are doing OK in this bed, but there's enough struggling to look into it further. So outside of that bed, these have not done well for me. Patriot's Fire shrank and then died on me last year as did Rhino Hide. Seducer looked OK but hasn't really increased in 5 years so it got moved last year as it finally started getting smaller. I got a nice sized Smokey Bear to start with but after two years not close in size to that big start yet. Summer Music has been slowly shrinking the past couple years while the similar looking Color Festival has done great in the same bed. Comments (32)Thank you for the suggestions. I am going to keep them in mind and compare during this season and take pics of blooms, etc. I would guess it's a more recent introduction. I honestly thought it would be easier to Identify because it's a little different, but oh well, I guess I don't need a name to enjoy it :) . I love the hosta variety at homestead perennials- she often has a lot of the newer introductions and it is only 10 minutes from my house. But she doesn't tend to label her plants well, which drives me a little crazy to occasionally have to rely on my knowledge or her memory for an ID. Still..... Everything I've purchased there has grown fast and is healthy, and she has a lot of stuff I can't find anywhere else without paying for shipping, plus amazingly so far she has never been wrong on an ID she has given me (that I know of)....See MoreHosta Flowers 2021 ......................

4 months agoBeautiful mature clump of Krossa Regal at Plant Delights Nursery Juniper Botanical Garden. In the first photo, I think Tony Avent is giving a tour in the background.
The last photo is my Krossa Regal, surrounded by other potted hostas in a less majestic example of garden presentation.

Krugerrand - from a sickly plant in a pot to one growing well in my Hosta hell in 2 years. I had trouble finding this one but seems more available today. Really needs another year to strut its stuff.

4 months agoKatie Q again. This one grows to a medium size. The mature clump at PDN was gorgeous, but I did not photograph it. I saw the mature clump at PDN, checked their greenhouse for it, and went home to buy it online. And this is what you see.

4 months agoKrugerrand this year. It got damaged by late frosts, setting it back about 1 year. Steve, yours should be majestic this year.

4 months agoThe K-Hostas I have a both pretty sad. On the right in the first photo is what was labeled as being Hosta katsuragawa beni, but I see no red on the petioles, so I think it unlikely. This poor plant has been eaten down to the roots for several years in a row so I had to dig it up and stick it in the time-out pot to teach it to fight back against the rabbits. It was promptly eaten again about two days after this photo was taken. (left is a Lakeside Dragonfly, which will be reposted a month or so =)
Below is my poor, deeply buried Krossa Regal, which holds the honor of being my oldest hosta (that I actually planted myself). It has been getting smaller for the last five years of its 12-year life. I have another time-out pot ready for it in the corner of the garage. Get bigger or else.
