What is the best way to clean my new stainless appliances?
Comments (57)After reading the posts, I had already tried Sprayway, Stainless Steel Magic, Mr Clean Erasers(once), vinegar and water. But never Pledge. As I only had the orange Pledge I thought what the ****, I'll try it. I used the Micro Fiber towel ( Yes the ones from Costco for cars). It was wonderful and quick. My French Door frig, my dishwasher and range look great and all in five minutes. I call my husband Shrek as he never thinks about using the handles, but now I have a quick fix. Thanks to those that suggested it....See MoreWhat would look best in MY kitchen?
Comments (23)I'm glad you included photos of the adjoining rooms. You have a lovely home with lots of character. I love the arched doorways & that pretty hallway. With the interest of your adjoining rooms & your dark wood floors, I think you can pull off all white cabinets, a white island & white countertops. Add glass uppers as suggested above and a new backsplash. The wetbar appears to be separated from the kitchen? If yes, I'd consider something totally different with the wetbar - not sure what. A countertop microwave wouldn't bother me & you have a nice corner for it. I have white perimeter countertops & white cabinets. I don't find that it's too much white with accessories & backsplash. I have a second larger white island that separates the kitchen from the family room (you have your wood table & chairs). Even though it has more detailed moldings & a beautiful dark walnut top, I much prefer the look of the white top on the other island. That was a total surprise to me because I put a lot of thought into the design of the wood topped island. Are you planning to add a hood above your cooktop? I am also a big fan of the "weird tiny windows." You've got a great space for your dream white kitchen....See MoreWhat's the best way to put a prep sink in a wood island top?
Comments (7)I have my main sink on my plank, maple wood island and I've had no issues. I have an under mount, farm sink which was sealed with silicon between the sink and where it mets the wood. The wood was treated with Watco Butch Block Oil and Finish which I done once since they counters were installed. I do use Butcher Block mineral oil conditioner on it every few weeks, when the water stops beading on top of the wood, I know it's time for another application. I actually prefer the mineral oil to the Watco product which can leave streaky marks on the wood if you don't apply it just right. I apply more of the oil around the sink and under the lip and I'm careful to wipe around the sink after I use it. I do have four children who have friends over all the time, so glasses get sat on the wood and the sink gets used by people who aren't as careful and I've gotten some water marks on it, but they have all come up rather easily with a bit of mineral oil or furniture polish. I wipe it down after I clean the kitchen with either Method or Pledge furniture polish. When we are cooking the wood island is our main prep area and it can get covered with water and other liquids, I don't rush to clean it up until I'm ready to clean. The first few weeks of owning the wood was stressful, but now I've lightened up and we use it frequently for parties. I do put out coasters but they aren't always used. The worst thing that has happened to the wood are a few little ding marks from opening bottles or cans. I really like the wood, and if I were to do another kitchen, I would go with it again....See Morewhat is the best way to attach a garden hose to an apt kitchen sink?
Comments (9)Unscrew the aerator on the faucet and take it to the store to find something with the same threading and depth. Most of all the depth, for a while it was on by about 1/2 a thread and could pop off if I looked at it cross eyed. The other side needs to be hose thread but that's easy. I've bought some that didn't work so the one I've got is treasured! The ones that didn't work looked like the one posted earlier but that's my faucets, yours may be different. This works well for my purposes, washing dogs in warm water outside once a month and changing 90 gallons of water in my aquarium weekly. I don't dare shut the water in the hose off but suspect I'm being cowardly more than it's a potential disaster. The aerator hasn't gotten damaged in 18 years with only 2 faucets. I've no experience with quick connects used for dishwashers and such....See MoreKevin Neal
