Other home office Design Dilemma

help with home office design!

I’m trying to figure out how to add custom built ins with a desk in our office. The floor plan makes it tough! If the French door wouldn’t open in, we could easily add built ins against the back wall but doesn’t look like that’s an option.
Would built ins in on the long wall look weird? We still wouldn’t be able to bring those wall to wall because of the window.
I’m open to any suggestions!

You don't have to run the built-ins wall-to-wall. Don't install any more than what you will really use. Were you planning on floating the desk in the middle of the room facing the French doors? What do you think about floating the desk but having it face the front of the house and then putting the built-ins behind it? You could then have a seating area in front of the front window.

That’s exactly what my original plan was but when you open the French doors it almost hits that back wall so if we did built ins on the back wall we wouldn’t be able to close the door. :(
I love the idea of a floating desk but worry about power cords for laptop and monitor.
I never thought of a sitting area by the windows though…I love that!! Thank you!

What if you turned the desk so the person sitting is facing out rather than looking into the mirror. Look into getting a square rug for the space. what about some floating shelves for storage on the bike wall? What is around that corner? Have you thought through what you need for your home office? For example, in my former house, I had a free-standing desk that, granted, had more stuff on it than yours in the picture above, but was in constant danger of me accidentally pushing stuff off the back of the desk. Which yes, I tended to do. Also, in your layout, would having the desk facing that direction be a distraction to the person working at the desk? And lastly, is there a view out the window and door that the person at the desk might enjoy looking at?

I want to really thank everyone for their input. I showed my husband all the comments and photos and he is NOW starting to hear what I've been saying for quite some time. We are going to step back a little and rethink this space. We were just throwing a bandaid on it, and it wasn't going to satisfy either of us. I will be back on with our other space that has been under renovation because I need help there for sure as well. What an amazing group. Thanks again.

I am trying to understand how you currently sit: one person in red chair is looking at the back of the person at the rolltop desk? The first thing that I would do is to move the rolltop desk which is blocking the window. What about putting the two desks together in the middle of the room so that the back of the rolltop creates a front for the other desk. (The person at the rolltop already had their back to the door so they shouldn’t mind.) Perhaps put the bookcases one on either side of the corner furthest from the door or leave them framing the window. Can you use the chaise elsewhere in the home?
