How do I do the white picture frame molding in the dining room?
Comments (12)THANK YOU vcheethi! It is a little hard to see the true creamy yellow and then the other 2 colors. But it really looks great IRL. The adjacent foyer is also the Belgian Waffle--upper color so it all ties together. Here are a couple more pics. We put an extra mirror( from our master bath) behind the glass shelves and then painted the side walls. I have some of my turned bowls in there. I love the reflection. I can also take more pics if it would help anyone. ajsmama: I think the stained wood would look great with the right paint colors. If you either stain another piece of wood to take "shopping" with you or take a piece of your molding that you pop off I bet you can find earthy colors that will really look good. FYI the Olympic Brand piants at Lowes have these great color family folders that I use. I get the paints made in BM but the color family folders are better than any other brand that I have found. What are the other colors in your den? Also since it is a den I think you can get away with a more rustic earthy look. PLease do post colors and wood color etc on another thread so we can all see. I think it would be great fun to see something less formal done in this way. c...See MoreAnone with large mirror in dining room?
Comments (49)One of the very few things worth keeping in this house was the full wall of mirrors (a 3 piece set) in our dining room. Sure enough, it got broken either during demo of its ceiling, some other areas or when reframing. It was minding its own business and no one knows how it bit the dust (or no one has told me). The gc said he'll replace it, but it was old and may not be easily matched. I have a bunch of other old mirrors in storage, so will have to cobble something together until I get inspired. It was truly the only design element worth keeping in all the 60 years this house has been here and all the p.o.s! Figures........See MoreMirrors in dining rooms ...
Comments (83)Thanks for the additional thoughts! Patty, you are not a weirdo! I like your idea and would love to see a photo. I think we are satisfied with our current arrangement though, and the mirror really doesn't look too low when you see it in person. (My parents stopped by today and they really liked it hung there. I know they wouldn't have been so vociferous if they didn't think it looked right.) ;-) I have played around with items on the windowsill today and think I'll stick with these things for now: The plant (still want a better pot for it though), my long-legged iron bird, couple of favorite blue and white plates in the Asiatic Pheasant pattern, and a couple of pieces of complementary art pottery. I really like the mix of "finer" items with more rustic things, and that's what I'm trying to pull off in this space....See MoreDisplaying a large mirror in living room or dining room
Comments (2)Go ahead and hang it. That’s far safer than propping it up to make it taller. I have a 6x5’ mirror in a thick heavy wood frame that I hung on plaster walls. It weighs about 35-50 lbs. We mounted it about 8” above the baseboard for our 8’ ceilings....See Morenjmomma
