Repaint muted brick red dining room neutral before selling?
Comments (22)I am slightly prejudiced as next week the painters are coming to do my red family room in the same color...a muted red like yours. It works in that room as does yours. My home will be going on the market soon and as a broker for 45 yrs. and now perspective buyer for a condo, I can say that a beautiful red room does not bother me. Lacquered, fire engine red walls, yes...a problem but not like your dining room. People paint to sell in soft yellows, beiges and grays but still the buyer will probably want to change that as well. So as long as there is harmony in your rooms and the muted room contributes to that, my thoughts would be to just remove the window treatment, as suggested, I cannot tell you how many places I have seen for sale where the entire residence was painted yellow to appear fresh and neutral throughout. My first thought is..OMG, I detest the color yellow and I would have to paint the entire home before moving plus list price is high because it is newly painted. Educate yourself on the competing homes in your area and price range, Then price accordingly.....it will sell if priced right. That is a bigger factor than a red room. Your dining room is beautiful....See MoreAny suggestion for house color? Thinking to repaint...
Comments (4)You have to consider the roof color. How about white on white just to freshen it up some? Here is Navajo White on walls and White Dove on trim....See Moretrim color suggestions for 1920’s brick home
Comments (7)The shutters are distracting from the front entry. Typically, you do not see shutters on a four square and if the (distracting) shutters were gone, the entry would become the focal point. Next is the storm door...we can't see the front door at all. Photo of front door? Particularly the stained glass as one of the colors would influence the choice for the door. If you must have a storm door , choose a full view and it must be painted what ever color you choose for the door. Keep trim and downspouts white....See MoreExterior repaint suggestions
Comments (4)I think that the colors in photo 4 would look really great on your house. I'm not sure if you're interested in messing with the electrical, but I think sconces on either side of the garage door (similar to photo 4) replacing the spotlight would add interest, especially if painting the garage a different color than the house and making it sort of a feature. I'd recommend finding a way to pull in at least a hint or two of natural wood (maybe that's just your front porch, maybe you can find a few different areas to bring in/preserve the natural wood). It will complement the olive green/cream really nicely and maintain that somewhat rustic, wooded vibe....See MoreN Hojo
