black counter tops best choice ? black sided fridge sigh....
Comments (9)It shouldn't be more than a couple of hundred dollars to panel the sides of the fridge and move that cabinet forward. I'd say $500 tops. You just haven't found the right person for the job yet. It's even pretty easily DIYable if you are remotely handy. Step #1 would be to take a cabinet door down to the best paint shop in town and having them color match it and sheen match it to the cabinets. That's actually the most difficult aspect of it. And sourcing some new crown molding that matches the profile of the old. If you can't source that, then it's easier to just replace all the cabinet's molding. Which actually would be a good thing, as you could then beef it up and take it to the ceiling. That might cost you 1K. But it would have a huge impact on the kitchen....See MoreI hate my new cabinets - help with counters
Comments (25)I do love colored cabinets. Sorry you're not getting what you want. I wanted white too, but we are just too dirty around here. What I wanted to say is that if I'm not mistaken, svelte sage is the closest match to Farrow and ball's French gray. There is a kitchen that all of us love with a french gray island. This is one of my favorite kitchens ever and if there is even a remote chance that yours looks similar. I think you'll be very happy! They used wood (not sure if you're interested in that) and it looks beautiful. That thick wood top is sooo pretty! Actually, the other wood doors are very similar in color to the ones you picked out with a golden something or other granite on the tops. I think that marble would be gorgeous if you can handle the pressure if it. :) There are some quartz tops that look very similar. You might try that. I'm not sure if I'd do soapstone (though would be pretty too) if you're worried about darkness in the kitchen. Try not to worry too much. I know the whole process isn't the greatest. But, the decisions you've made are very pretty and classic to your home. It will be stunning when it's done! Comments (70)Your counters are lovely. And I suspect in time, it will become less of an issue for you. We have two seams in our kitchen - one in the location like yours...it's flawless. Sadly, it's the one that doesn't show up as much when you look across the kitchen. Our fabricator said that they don't like to do the corner seams because there's more area for issues lining up and that it typically shows more. It's what I was used to with formica countertops, so it wouldn't have occurred to me that they would do it differently until I started hanging out here and seeing how most seams are put in. I wish that our 2nd seam would have been as perfect as our first seam, but it's not. In terms of being level and tight, it is quite good, but the match leaves a lot to be desired. They didn't do the computer line up option (I wish that they did - there was only one fabricator in our area that did and I was leery about using them due to other possible issues that some people mentioned). All in all, I'm not sure that I would pursue it further - sometimes we wind up works off than we started. Regardless, good luck....See MoreI need help with my countertop choice!!
Comments (18)Chrissyb, as you can see from this additional photo I have attached, your cabinet color, floors, and black appliances are almost just like mine. And I do like your countertop. Romy, I really like the grey in the first picture that you posted. I had never even considered grey for my kitchen. I'll have to think about it. As for our budget, we are remodeling on a shoestring. We hadn't planned on remodeling until next year, but then I saw the cabinets on eBay and we really liked them. I spent weeks planning a design to be able to use the cabinets in our space. Now we have spent more $$'s than planned because of the time needed to make changes to the cabinets (such as changing finished ends, making a wine cabinet into open shelving, making a plate rack I wanted, etc.). I was really nervous about how the cabinet design would look without the assistance of a KD and CAD drawings, but we are really happy with how it's turned out! We knew the countertop would probably be the most expensive part of the remodel. Unfortunately, we cannot afford Corian countertops from the private collection. But then I saw the Rain Cloud, as well as Burled Beach and Sonora, on solidsurface.com for about $500/slab with free shipping. I really wanted one of them to work! By the way, raee, the Rain Cloud doesn't have any tan undertones in it, and I do think it might look washed out in our kitchen. Oh, well, back to the drawing board...you all have given me some good ideas. I love this website and Houzz. Oh, in case you are wondering about the bottom oven in the picture, the installers dropped it, and the outside glass shattered! It's an old oven, but a really nice Thermador we bought along with the cabinets....See MoreDana
