Color For A Library
Comments (27)vjrnts--You seem to be leaning towards rich yellows in your posts, so this should be the way you go, as it sounds as though you have really made your decision :) But might I suggest you try looking at paints that work with light, since your room interacts with it so much and changes considerably as the day goes by? There are full spectrum paints from Ellen Kennon, which just have to be seen on the walls to understand--they are pricey, but worth it. I would suggest Citrine for your room, but many of them may work for you. http://www.ellenkennon.com Then there is a paint line called Devine that interacts with light in a wonderful way. I would recommend the Devine Gold or Devine Straw in the "Natural Blondes" palette. You can read about the Devine Color paints at the link below and pick up or order packets of color samples to watch on your wall before making your choice. I think you would be very happy with either of these paint lines. Good luck with your color choices. Here is a link that might be useful: Devine Color...See MoreNeed a basement transformation miracle
Comments (30)I would not do too much in the way of painting or building anything for this space. You have a limited amount of time to get the project done and stressing over building things and/or painting is going to be overwhelming. As someone suggested a large carpet remnant in a light color would be fine for the floor. You could even get a pretty throw rug to go near the bed or dressing area for interest. Relocate the items on the metal shelving unit and put some pretty baskets on it for your mom to use for her folded items. You can add an extra blanket and magazines in a couple of the baskets. Get a rack for her to hang her clothes on. I'm guessing you need to buy a bed too? If so, a twin bed will be fine for one person, but a full size would be even better as it could help take up some of the space. Behind the bed, I would hang an inexpensive quilt to fill in the headboard area. Not being a huge fan of fake plants, in this situation I think an artificial ficus tree in the corner would soften up the area. Keep one of the wooden chairs for her to use near her dressing area (maybe put a decorative pillow on it). You could hang some sheets or curtains from the ceiling beams to close in the space and give an extra feeling of privacy, but a couple of room screens would be easy and attractive too. I wouldn't worry about doing anything with the overhead lighting. Just put a couple of lamps on some bedside tables and that should be sufficient (at least one three way lamp would be good). You can get decorator tables with the table cloths inexpensively at Walmart. I would stick with light colors for the bedding and fabrics. Make the bed as luxurious as you can afford...that would make my mom so much happier than paint on the wall. I hope you enjoy working on this space. I'm sure whatever you accomplish will be wonderful and your mom will enjoy it....See MoreNeed help with endless white tile floors
Comments (51)We have redone all the bathrooms but one, which we are redoing now. We had no choice about new floors in after some water damage last week, so we went with wood and got a wonderful deal on it. Photos forthcoming. The tile remains in the kitchen and laundry area, though.T he feedback from buyers was so universally dismal that we were shocked. Whether it was the dark grout (which I also cannot stand) or what, we don't know. We already redid the kitchen though we retained the original wood cabinets. There is a custom travertine master suite and claw foot tubs, all the paint and carpet is new. It really seems to be that people loathed the tile in the current market. We are desperate and frustrated, though price isn't the only answer. We did lower the price twice, but to lower it more would put us underwater and then it would get torn down by an investor. So we hope these last updates will make a big difference in making the house current for the neighborhood....See MoreDAT #6: Black and White and Gray All Over
Comments (51)Cawaps, nice dining room. The patchwork tile and the photo art make the whole room! In your second one, it is amazing how green Comfort Gray looks! PBH, I really like the nursery. It is cute and fun even in black and white. It is an awesome idea for someone who doesn't want to find out the baby's sex in advance, and then add accent colors after the baby is born. They say babies love black/white contrast patterns because they can see them before their vision fully develops. Great artwork! Crl, love the western room. It definitely references the West without all the cliche stuff. I can see that room looking right in many kinds of houses. Beverly, that is my favorite room of yours so far. Love that oyster mirror, and the cabinet, side table, and rug. It looks very liveable. Patrick, thanks for the suggestion, that would be a good challenge. I am keeping a list of suggestions, and just randomly picking one each week. All ideas are welcome! Kittycatpaws, I like your room. The wallpaper is really cool, but I do think it would give me a headache :-)...See MoreP Banos
