Is this trim too white?
We're in the middle of painting the interior of our house. It's all SW Shoji White with SW Pure White trim, and so far I love it. But is the Pure White Trim too stark for the kitchen? Cabinets are SW Evergreen Fog.

Help with picking interior trim - not too white
Comments (4)I completely agree on outlawing ceiling white. We only have 8 ft ceilings and the architect suggested using the same color on walls, trim and ceiling. He thinks that look "lifts" the ceiling. Not sure how I feel about this. Part of my hesitation is that I haven't found a color that I think will work. I do like Revere Pewter a lot, however the house doesn't have a lot of natural light so I'm scared of getting too dark with my paint choices. My furniture is a combo of transitional and some antique wood pieces that have been passed down to me. I like bolder patterns on accent chairs and pillows so I want to keep the wall paint neutral. Comments (7)Thanks all. Beth, I chose the porcelain flooring because it's so easy to clean up. We live in SoCa and recently had terrible Santa Ana winds as we do several times each year. This floor was so easy to sweep. Comments (27)We closed on our house today wahoooo! I only got to spend about an hour there but looked quickly at the samples for trim/doors/ceilings. I think I've narrowed it down to three possibilities: BM Simply White, SW Extra White and BM Super White. I thought about BM Chantilly Lace too. Basically, looking at the finishings, my first gut is that BM Simply White looks the best. I just worry it may look too yellow once up on everything. At least that's what I read (and you know how reliable the internet is). First question: has anyone had experience with BM Simply White? Does it just read warm or do you see the yellow in it when it's one trim/doors/ceilings? So I may go that direction, or wonder if I should go with a cleaner white but something close. Something still a little warm... As for the runners up, from what I can see SW Extra White and BM Super White are very similar but Extra White maybe looks a little warmer? Maybe because it has more chroma? Is this understanding accurate, Lori A. Sawaya?? And it seems to me that the order of warmth would go SW Extra White, BM Super White, BM Chantilly Lace... is that a correct reading? Again for context - East/West exposures with a lot of shade. Wall colors aren't chosen but would likely be something along the lines of BM Edgecomb Gray, BM Ballet White, BM Chelsea Gray, BM Natural Cream. Daughter's room will be BM Opal. 2 years agoIt's a beautiful color! As of now, I basically only have photos from 9am and 6pm, which is when I go by to let painters in and out of the house. This is the only one I have from around 3pm. I can attach more once we move back in.

2 years agoEvergreen Fog is a greyed-green colour and belongs to the Green-Yellow Hue Family.
In relativly balanced lighting it will appear just as its colorography describes.
BUT when the available light is short of the warmer wawavelengths it has the capacity to shift noticeably more blueish. It won’t happen in every room. But it’s worth looking out for when testing.
It doesn’t necessarily happen on all walls either, that that’s why painting colour samples on one wall, is of little help. (board x 2 coats) So that you can move them around and view both high and low.
This doesn’t mean it has blue ’undertones’ it just means that such near neutral colours from this Hue Family neighbourhood, are far more impacted by varying light quality than more colourful colours.
I like that shift, as I think it adds changing atmosphere to room. But I wouldn’t want it to be a surprise,,
