If you make it an office put French doors. If you make it a guest room, make sure there's a bathroom with a shower nearby and make it a wall with a regular door. It would be OK to have a guest room with French doors as well, as long as your guests are not frequent and you install curtains for the doors.

This might be a better pic, sorry the formal dining area. They angled the wall so the hallway appears more spacious and the home will be ready in about 5 weeks. No windows to this room.

Are you saying that you want the option to convert the dining room to a bedroom and looking for closure options? If so, I think you need to start with a window. The architects here will know but I don’t think you can even have a bedroom without a window for safety reasons. As for closures, I think your best bet is French doors (to which you could add curtains for privacy) as another commenter suggested.

You're not showing the entire plan. Where the heck is the kitchen? It was never a "formal" dining with no easy access to a kitchen that I can see, and no window of any sort as it is obviously garage on the right side.

May as well make it office now too - kids play near mom.........and the kitchen. You really want the foyer area as a play zone? Open to what? Not you, that's for sure.

You were worried on a "spacious entry with a view to washer and dryer??? Can you show the entire floor? Perhaps a few mistakes made........... ( depending window elevation........ below in the mud. Mommy command center, counter height desk space. .....

Whatever, !! Seems it was never destined to be dining. I'd want a lot better laundry with kids, That much is certain. Roughly below from faint dimensions on limited coffee : )

I'm not entirely clear - the "formal dining room" is to be a play room instead, and then eventually an office or guest bedroom? It's against code anywhere I know of to have windowless bedrooms, so it will not and should not be that. Put in French doors because it will never ever be a bedroom. Legally or ethically.

IF you do intend to use this as a dining room - I am assuming the kitchen is to the left of the pantry. That's a hike for serving people. Where is your living room?

PS I know some people hate angled walls. I wouldn't want to put one in, but I don't hate on them. Besides it sounds like everything is framed already. (I had an angled wall that came with a small starter condo I had when I first moved out of the parents'. It was fine and actually there it was the only way that small space worked.)

Is the dining room on an outside wall?

You could do bifold doors which allow for the wider opening but can close completely or partially, and don't take up much room when open.

(The only window in that side of the house is above the washer and dryer, which will be impossible to clean.)

IMO a poor spot for a play room or a guest room . I would like to see the whole plan since this one is bad IMO already hopefully not all things are written in stone. I dislike seeing a room full of kids toys on entry to a home . So post the whole floor plan

Have you considered adding closet doors to the pantry shelves? I'm thinking of the dust etc from the mudroom and laundry settling on the pantry items, as well as the aesthetics of walking through the visual cacaphony of a pantry.

Angled walls reduce the efficiency fo the space.

A window in a bedroom is required by code (unless your house has a certain fire suppression system) and a real good idea for safety, comfort, and health reasons. Even with a window, I would suspect if it became a guest room, guest that stayed there would seek out other accommodations on their next visit.

I assume the thicker walls are for mechanical chases.

Pretty sure we may have scared her off, but it is frustrating to see what looks like really inconvenient issues after the fact and virtually no way to change at this late date.

Me? I can't stand a walk thru laundry, kids or no kids! Why bring the dust from what is almost certainly a garage next to that mud door.

The only thing this space looks suitable for is an office with French doors. I don't understand no windows. Maybe this is interior? Who knows.

Change order for a window on the front porch.

The room is small, fine for office, but drawn in is a twin bed size to scale. For a permanent closet, you could go to a day bed.

Without a window, it can never be a guest room. All bedrooms MUST have a window.

For such a small space I don't understand the desire for a formal dining room.
