Carrie B, the wall isn't that wide. When the door is fully open there is 30" between the door and the tv stand.

If you are leaving the TV on the stand, please don't put anything else on the TV stand.

You can hang art on either side of the TV, but not too close.

First decide whether or not you are going to mount the TV on the wall.

Your pumpkin color goes nicely with the couches, although I prefer the brighter color of the sofa cushions to the duller color of the curtains.

One of the reasons I don't care for the color of your curtains is it is rather dark and seems rather oppressive and heavy, and this is the winter now. Imagine how hot it will make the room feel visually in the spring and summer!

People are really going with lighter colors nowadays. An off-white/ivory color, a color matching your paint trim would look perfect!

If you want to dress up the curtains, you can attach a trim to the edge of the curtains as seen in this photo, in any pattern or colorway.

Why is there a table against the wall?

The carpet you have now is does nothing for your room, you can do much better than that.

For example,

I would get some more throw pillows for the sofa, and maybe an ottoman for the chair.

The throw pillow fabric depends on the carpet you select.

I can't tell if your chair and sofa are grey or brown.

Loobab, I do not want to put anything on the stand I want to do something with the space around it. I have been looking at some of those floating shelves to put under the tv after mounting it and getting rid of the tv stand altogether. That tv stand is 58" long.

I have considered a different rug but I have yet to find one I like.

Maybe a tall plant on one side would be nice.

I suppose it depends what type of electronic paraphernalia you need together with the TV- soundbar, DVR, etc. That might dictate whether or not you need a shelf or more than one or a whole stand below the TV.

Art on both sides is nice, one large picture each, or one picture, and one large plant is good too.

I find lots of things all over as shown above to be very distracting.

You need a much longer tv console that can then help anchor some art pieces on the wall near the tv. Study the photos @MDLN posted. You’ll see that a big part of the recipe for good asthetics with a tv area is the proper size and scale of the tv console/furnifurniture directly beneath it.

Flo Mangan, i love the mock up you provided. that look is what i was going for.

You are correct, the room is small. Should i leave the windows bare with just the blinds.? I was thinking I needed curtains to soften the look of the room. What about putting shears instead of drapes. I can return the drapes in exchange for something else or nothing at all.

Because tv is so close to front door, I'd attempt at lessening its prominence, while also trying to create more of an entryway feel. A longer console would really help (image tv vs mirror below). Accessorizing with a lamp is also a good idea.

This console is a bit too long, but the overall concept is really nice and would create a ”hallway” effect.

In regards to rust drapes, they will be a really strong addition, cutting up the space. If you search “rust/burnt orange drapery in living room” you’ll see very few examples for a reason.

I‘d also skip sheers and for a modern look, use a black rod that extends quite far so drapes can rest more on the wall and suggest cream or grey,

On other topics (you didn’t request help on, so ignore if not interested), suggest removing small shelf/picture and add large art to pull the room together. Consider layering cushions and look for modern, warm combinations, mixing solids and patterns.

Lastly, heavier and lower side tables would feel more balanced next to couch.

Have you thought to flip the room? putting the sofa back floating and the tv on the wall the sofa is on now?

RL Relocation that would be ideal however the sofa sits in front of a window. And even if the window was not there, there is not enough space for it to be comfortable moving about and the tv would be too close up.

I like the art work that you posted. I went ahead and cancelled the order for the terrracotta drapes. I chose those hoping to pull the colors together and add warmth to the room.

I just purchased the brushed gold rods that you see in the picture a few weeks before Christmas so I want to try to work with those. I chose that finish hoping to capture the color of the lamps. I read somewhere that the metals in the room should match. I don't really know about all of this. I have tried getting ideas from pintrest and other sites.

If I choose grey drapes should they be the same shade as the grey on the walls?

I think a larger console would also be better. The table with the lamp looks off to me. Maybe a square side table that could be used by people in both the chair and the couch. Not up against the wall like you have there. Maybe glass to lighten things up, brass or gold accents.

tfitz1006, I agree about the tables. I have new "proper" (LOL) end tables from Wayfair being delivered on Tuesday.

The tables you see now is from my fail of attempting to match a picture I saw online. Big fail.

You could change the white blinds out and put woven wood shades at your window. I am not crazy about drapery at short windows especially in small rooms. Just me.

Flo Mangan, I wish I could have gotten the suggestion about the roman shades before purchasing the blinds. They cost too much for me to just discard them. Thanks anyway.

Brushed gold rods will be fine. In regards to the color of drapery, I don’t think it has to match walls. You have a few shades of grey, so just try to find a color that works best in room overall.

I also have a living room with small windows and I find sheers is definitely the answer. I like the softness of curtains at a window, floor length, even if the windows are small. It definitely softens the room. As far as colour goes you have quite a bit of gray happening in the room already. A lighter colour like an off-white or perhaps a white with a bit of terra-cotta pattern in it could be quite nice in a sheer. The blinds themselves are needing a bit of something extra I think. Given that you can’t replace them I would go with shears. In a light colour they will not be blocky. I like the idea of bringing some terra-cotta into the room and I wouldn’t give up on a terra-cotta. A large plant to the right of the television would be quite nice if you have enough light. Some kind of small console table or shelf to the left of the TV for the entranceway could also work as a place to sit down keys, or whatever you want to going in and out of the house.

I like the idea of introducing some terra-cotta into your curtains however. Here’s some sheer options and white with a touch of terra-cotta similar to your pillows. Quite a price range. I think the solid terra-cotta is going to be a bit much but they might be worth a try.

Azachary-I understand completely about blinds. Then go for sheets maybe in a beige tone with some texture. Something with a subtle pattern. Availability is a challenge right now.

Being that the wood tones of all the furniture is espresso beige sheers should go well. There is beige in rug.

I went to Bed Bath and Beyond the week before Christmas looking for an idea for the window covering and the selections were few. That's why I ordered the ones from Wayfair that I will have to receive and then return. Obviously you cannot cancel an order that is already being prepared for shipping. Bummer.

I am seeing a lot of sheers that are Faux Linen. Would any of you recommend those?

Okay I went ahead and hung sheers that I had purchased for another room. I know they are too long but I don't want to hem them if they don't look right for this room. If this looks fine I will order another pair. The large window has two panels on the one side.

Once the end tables get here I think it will look so much better. I have decide on a plant to go beside the tv on one side. I will go to Home Depot tomorrow to find one I like. Now to decide what goes on the other side.
