move kitchen cabinet hardware, without painting cabinets
Comments (2)There are all kinds of high-end finishes that can be done with covering wood holes, and it usually involves an artistic level of painting with multiple colors to match the grain in a faux-painting style. For just a solid color, there's not much you can do to hide it if you are just going to do a wood filler....See MoreThinking about painting cabinets
Comments (15)If you do paint the cabinets, be careful not to use too bright a white. You need a warm white if you're keeping the counters. Your floors are also a warm color. Always a good idea to improve your lighting. Painting cabinets is a big job if you DIY, it's not like painting walls. Be sure to research how to do it right or else you'll negatively affect the value of your home and not like the results. That's why I have to agree with the poster who suggested keeping the cabinets the same and changing the counters....See MoreLaundry - ideas on painting cabinets
Comments (2)Ideas: new counter and backsplash, under-mount sink, consider removing some or all of the uppers and installing think wood shelves, making the entire wall tile behind the shelves, update cabinet hardware....See MoreThoughts re current trend of painting cabinets blue, green etc?
Comments (31)Sorry, Beth H. : but I love my table the way it is, as well as the chairs. I do NOT like the table and chairs that you proposed, and I am very happy with my design the way it is. I've been a professional designer since 1974, starting in fashion and switching to high end furniture in 1989. I know what pleases me and what does not. Across from the kitchen is the dining area, and I have a couple of these chairs there, which I reupholstered in the same Clarence House, London, zebra tapestry fabric, which I love, and I move these chairs into the kitchen when we have guests. The chairs are a 1960 American knock-off of a Hans Wegner design, and I have four more chairs plus the dining table at my house in Los Angeles. I've also made pillows for the living room in Cathedral City with this fabric. I would like to have the kitchen walls painted white instead of beige, but if you look at the back wall in the kitchen, you can see that it extends into the living room, which extends into the halls, etc, and so it is not a simple matter to change the colors of the walls in the kitchen - it would be a huge undertaking and I do not feel that it is necessary at this time. Although I hate beige, I can live with it for now. However, I absolutely do NOT want wood in the kitchen, except for the occasions when I have to move the extra chairs. We do not live in this house full time - yet. I made these napkins for the kitchen and this is enough orange for me. The tile floor also goes throughout the entire house, and I happen to like that as it is. I've had a checkerboard tile floor in my kitchen in Venice, and I do not want another one. I also do not want any rugs in the kitchen or dining room. I use the dining room more as a sewing area, and it has a very nice view of the pool, not to mention tons of light, like the entire house. I am perfectly happy with the height of the chandelier in the kitchen, and it is the perfect height for viewing at night through the bay window while I am in the spa in the patio. When one is in this kitchen, one has an expansive view of the pool and patio area, but this is very difficult to photograph because of the extreme glare from the bay window. However, the experience of being in this room is vastly different from the experience of viewing photographs of it. Here's the view I have of the dining room from the kitchen, more or less: This room is a work in progress at the moment. This photo was taken right after we painted this wall, at my brother's suggestion, and we hung one of his paintings on it. This is the dining room showing food for our last party. Eventually, we will move to this house and sell the house in Los Angeles, and so we need to keep it sparse for now. We will do more changes right before we move....See MoreBrittney D
