When you sit on a down, or mostly down, sofa cushion it leaves the imprint of your body when you get up. It is the nature of the material. It is not a wear issue at all. Over time, when the cushion gets worn down it can be refilled by the upholsterer. The highest end sofas have those types of cushions so they have that look. It's not wear. The long term issue I would be worried about is fabric durability, not construction issues. That's why you're buying a high quality sofa. And these days, a good sofa should wear for at least 20 years. It should not need replacing (even if the kids do jump on it occasionally). I've had a really good love seat now for 33 years. It's in its 3rd and last reupholstery and the cushion was originally and always has been down. It's been refilled for the 3rd time, too. It will surely outlive me.

Hi Cidyloowoo. This is just a guess, but is it possible that your chairs get more use than your loveseat & sofa? I say that because although there's nothing as comfortable as down--or feather-&-down : I've never used that foam insert thing--upholstery, keeping it looking presentable is another matter. In the old days, the maid took care of fluffing the cushions while the lady of the house was out of the room, and when you see pictures of down upholstery in catalogs and magazines, those cushions have been punched up by the photostylist, but these days, what with our laid-back, casual lifestyle, I see a lot of down sofas that look like hell. Of course, they're just even more comfortable once they're molded to your own particluar shape, but feeling good and looking good are two different things. My own preference is for comfort over style, so my sofa goes unfluffed for days at at time, and it doesn't disturb me at all bit, since the saggy look works with my antique furniture and faded curtains. In fact, unless people are coming over or I need to take a picture, I don't even bother fluffing. Maybe the only problem is that it's just a look you're not yet used to. Regards, MAGNAVERDE. I have two down sofas with bench seat cushions and individual, loose back cushions. The bench cushions are heavily packed, so that they are very firm (which is my personal preference). They keep their shape very well. To freshen them, I give the front edge a few love taps when I turn them over (every two weeks or so, when I think of it). The back cushions behave more like down bed pillows. I shape them quickly when I straighten up the rooms daily, as I would when making a bed. The benefit is that they conform to each person's back well, but these are large, generous pillows, and I also have loose foam pillows on the sofa for people who would like to use them. The down pillows are *great* when you want to snuggle in to take a nap or watch an old movie. I have a particular chair, of good quality and not cheap, whose cushions are foam, but, to me, very soft. I love its looks, but cannot STAND sitting in the thing. It kills my back. But my husband LOVES it. So it is all a matter of personal comfort. Just know if you like the down, and it's not an inventory item, with a good manufacturer, you can select the degree of firmness and they can adjust the amount of down used. However--and this is important--one more thing to be aware of is that many people are allergic to down. I happen to be one of them, and badly so. Don't even put me near an LLBean jacket. Most down products that are supposed to be nonallergenic turn out not to be, for some of us.I ONLY risked buying these sofas because: 1) I loved them so much I thought I coudn't live another minute without them ;-); 2) the representative was willing to give me in writing, separate from their usual guarantee, a statement saying they understood my medical condition and would refund/replace the furniture if their non-allergen down affected me; and 3) I'd ordered furniture from this manufacturer before, and they had stood by their guarantees by rectifying even little problems I had. And, luckily, no problem at all with these. I just mention this in case anyone thinking of down has a family member or frequent visitor with down or other allergies.

Im not sure what your meaning of (quote) " down feather dacron wrap". You can wrap foam with bonded low-melt dacron fiber, but I wouldnt recommend that as it will eventually compress/flatten leaving a wrinkled cushion, more so if you add swells on the cut-cover. Better to make a envelope (which is not a wrap) that has channels using down-proof ticking if your using feathers. If just fiber filled then you can use a cheaper option a non-woven material. Either way, The boxing or border for the envelope should finish the same height as the thickness of the foam. Then your fabric cover border should finish 1/2" less. The swells should be on all 4 sides of the cut cover and ( from .375 to .650) depending on the added thickness of the filled envelope. These swells should not be arched, the swell should start and arch within the first 2-3 inches of the end and go straight across to within the last 2-3 inches of the opposite end and then arch back down to the edge. Measuring from edge to edge off the foam, the cut cover should be 1" bigger; Meaning half inch seams, All the way around. Oh and the envelope should finish 1 1/2" bigger than the foam; measuring side to side and front to back.
