This may sound counterintuitive, but I think the room is arranged the wrong way. Where the sofa is makes it a rectangle that is compressed towards the fireplace whereas the window wall would suggest it go the other way. Also it makes the arrangement look like it's encroaching on the hallway instead of having plenty of breathing room. I would try putting the sofa with its back to the window wall, leaving an aisle way to get out the french door. I'd then put the love seat where the sofa is, put the single chair angled into the room where the love seat is now. I would also rotate the rug 90 degrees to extend the room the other way. You can extend it even further with a console table and lamps behind the love seat. Now that arrangement may not be most conducive to tv viewing, so depending on how the tv is used in this room, you may want to put it in the other nook. Also, it looks like the primary french door is the wrong one...it should be the other so you can step into the room and the aisle way...not have to walk around the door to get out or into the corner to enter the room. Re the mirror, I think it needs to be hung...leaning against the fireplace, it's too low and all it reflects is the ceiling. Hang it from a wire that is below the midpoint of the mirror so it will tilt down slightly and reflect the room.

First problem is, that the outlines of the windows and doors are sticking out because of the brown frame they are in. Make that white as the door is. That alone will help a lot! It will be much easier on the eyes. If you really love such things, then consider a few (just a few!) wooden beams on the ceiling. It looks in the pictures like your ceiling goes up a bit, so that would be a nice touch to it. The recliners may be really comfortable, but they dwarf this room. Better get a set of not too big and high sofas: one to sit two people and one to sit three people. Get a real coffee table and find another place/person for that chest-like thing, that is too low. Your windows are placed very low. It provides an easy look in and out. Do you really need to watch that way? For I would place my sofa's right there, under/before the windows and have a nice table in between them with a beautiful lamp on it. Then I'd put the TV on the place where the sofa is right now in a media console that is a bit higher than itself, so it functions as a room divider. This picture has a different style, but gives the idea. When you walk by, you should easily look over it: If you love yellow, how about just 1 or 1,5 walls (maximum 2 walls) with it? Either near the living area or the dining area as to sort of optically create two rooms out of it? Maybe go for a bit more intens yellow then, like: See how well that goes with gray? And gray goes very well together with the warm brown floors you have. Even the dining table would fit in. A nice piece in the center with the same yellow and gray (vase) in it, would combine everything nicely. And see how the neutral colored rug fits better? For the red rug is nice, but draws all eyes to it and it's not supposed to do so. The art on the wall has a fun shape, but since it consists of different pictures, it somehow competes, instead of completes. The picture above the bookcase is too big. If you really want a picture, than choose something vertical and go for a smaller frame. I myself would rather have a nice lamp on it. The kind of lamp you really like to look at. Perhaps the same kind as the one between the sofas? Get a cloth to wipe your feet nearer to the door and in the same color as the floor is, without any pattern as to not draw any attention to it. Can an area rug cover the damaged flooring and a piece of furniture the stone? Move the piano to the bookcase corner and arrange it so the pianist is facing the buffet wall and the piano top opens like a jewel box toward the wall so the music flows out into the room. Right now the tunes are hitting the hard window surface. I think the heavy Jacobean style buffet might look better if switched out with the drop top desk next door. Would you consider that? Someone mentioned MCM above, but if this is to be a family gathering, and TV watching space, that style may not prove to be very comfortable for relaxing together. Try a sectional floating out in front of the window with two chairs making a "U" of the sectional's "L". Put TV on or above a credenza on the wall where you now have the two Bergere chairs. The backyard doesn't provide much of a view. How about some sheers to camouflage it a bit. For more seating you can find a bench to it in somewhere. Can at least one of the bookcases go somewhere else? Tables, lamps and art should finish it off nicely.

Oh, hahaha, and the table is temporary. It’s just holding some home decor stuff I haven’t put away yet. It is funny how this house doesn’t seem to want to use the same decor items from the old house, it is like it has it’s own personality and the rooms call for something different. I am going to move the screen, maybe to the other side of the dining room table or behind the bar cart, which is just temporarily there also.
